Join our growing team!This position is a hybrid role (3x per week onsite) that will be based at our headquarters in Fremont, California.NEXTracker seeks a creative and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a position on the mechanical structures team. This engineer will be responsible for designing components for the flagship NEXTracker Horizon tracker to support a wider range of environments, more difficult site conditions, and cost reduction.Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:<ul><li>Lead the design and development of plastic injection molded components used in NEXTracker systems.</li><li>Perform engineering work using CAD/FEA software to solve problems in part design, structural analysis, mold flow simulation, tolerance stack-ups, design optimization, and manufacturing drawing creation.</li><li>Collaborate with tooling engineers and suppliers to ensure robust mold design, manufacturability, and efficient production cycle times.</li><li>Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) best practices specific to plastic injection molding, including gating, draft angles, cooling, warpage control, and shrinkage compensation.</li><li>Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and lead corrective actions for molding-related issues during pilot runs and production ramps.</li><li>Oversee prototype generation using rapid tooling, 3D printing, and bridge molding processes.</li></ul><ul><li>Manage internal R&amp;D budgets related to molded component development.</li><li>Mentor engineering staff in plastic design principles, prototyping, supplier engagement, and communication skills.</li></ul>Here is some of what you’ll need (required):<ul><li>B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (advanced degree preferred)</li><li>5+ years of relevant experience</li><li>Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM systems; mold flow analysis tools (e.g., Moldflow, Sigmasoft).</li><li>Extensive knowledge of GD&amp;T standards, tolerance analysis, and part validation processes.</li><li>Hands-on experience with DFM for injection molding, including tooling constraints and secondary operations (e.g., inserts, ultrasonic welding, over molding).</li><li>Strong understanding of material properties (commodity and engineering thermoplastics) and selection for performance, cost, and environmental conditions.</li><li>Experience in mass production manufacturing</li><li>Strong aptitude and intuition in mechanical failure analysis</li><li>Practical knowledge of prototyping manufacturing process</li><li>Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects</li><li>Self-motivated team player</li><li>Willingness to occasionally travel and work at client sites both domestically and internationally</li></ul>Why Join Nextracker: 🚀 Innovative Environment: Be part of a team that's at the forefront of revolutionizing solar energy technology.
