About the team The Optics team is responsible for the optical high level design, analysis and study of the different optical assemblies and optical payloads of our satellites. The optics team designs, models and analyzes the behavior of the optical components. Based on the systems requirements, they support in defining the specifications of new optical elements. They support the satellite Assembly Integration &amp; Testing team in the definition and execution of acceptance and integration optical procedures defined in the verification plans. The team is always learning and trying to push the limits, relying in part on the large diversity of people’s profiles and backgrounds. About the position As an optical engineer you will be responsible for the simulation and analysis of imaging optics hardware like hyper and multispectral camera focal planes, lenses and telescopes. The optical engineer will also assist in the design, calibration and execution of experiments in our labs and pilot plant. Location   Our labs are located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Remote work is acceptable, but we require you to be available to work in our labs at least 2 days per week.  Responsibilities  <ul><li>Model, perform simulations and analysis of lenses, telescopes, filters, and of optical sensor components for imaging systems in visible and near infrared light (ray tracing, Fourier optics, radiometry).</li><li>Perform tolerance analysis and manufacturing feasibility studies for new optical payloads.</li><li>Define and develop quality metrics and acceptance criteria for the optical payloads.</li><li>Suggest improvements in optomechanical design of our lenses and cameras to simplify manufacturing processes and improve manufacturing quality.</li><li>Collaborate with mechanical engineers in optomechanical design of space optical systems components. </li><li>Collaborate with mechanical engineers in the development of optical alignment, integration and calibration procedures.</li><li>Collaborate with the image processing team on assessing new metrics, evaluate optical quality and monitor quality in different processing levels. </li><li>Collaborate with product managers on requirements and feasibility analysis of projects involving optical components or processes.</li><li>Define and engineer acceptance criteria, quality metrics and acceptance procedures for external suppliers. </li><li>Partner with multiple suppliers to obtain the best product costing and quality and improve supply chain reliability. </li></ul> About you Experience<ul><li>Degree in optical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, electronics engineering, image processing or similar field of study or equivalent work experience.</li><li>Programming experience (preferably in Python)</li><li>Optical systems simulation (preferably in Zemax)</li><li>Experience  executing complex engineering projects in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.</li></ul>Skills<ul><li>You are skilled in scientific computing and you have a general appeal for modeling.</li><li>Good scripting and automation skills.</li><li>Advanced English proficiency levels.</li><li>Willingness to learn working Spanish.</li><li>Capacity to learn continuously and passion for pushing the limits.</li><li>Passion about lenses, telescopes, space photography and pushing the limits of current technologies.</li></ul>What we value<ul><li>Experience with ray tracing optical design software (Zemax preferred).</li><li>Experience in image processing techniques (basic)</li><li>Availability to travel to suppliers (mainly in Europe) or manufacturing plant (in Uruguay) as required</li></ul>Diversity Commitment  Satellogic values diversity and inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer.
