We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.<h2>Overview</h2><p>We’re seeking a hands-on <strong>CNC Machinist</strong> to join our Dayton, OH team.  In this role, together with your colleagues you are responsible for operating modern turning and milling centers and large 5axis gentry mill directly contributing to the manufacturing process of our highly complex prototype and production components. You will work closely with the CAM programming team as well as the manufacturing engineers.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li> Setting up and optimizing manufacturing processes on the machine</li> <li>Selecting clamping devices and tools, as well as setting up workpieces</li> <li> Set-up part work offsets, tool offsets and small editing of programs</li> <li> Troubleshooting in the manufacturing process and coordinating with the team</li> <li>Ensuring the required component quality</li> <li>Conducting measurements</li> <li>As a startup, we use new technologies, and the decision-to-implementation process is short. You can also contribute outside your designated tasks. For example, you can participate in the selection and procurement process of clamping devices and tool systems or participate in performance tests and experiments</li> <li>Ensuring a smooth workflow in the workshop (supporting Quality Assurance) </li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Minimum 4-6 years of related experience</li> <li>Vocational training as a machinist, CNC specialist, industrial mechanic, or a comparable qualification</li> <li>Several years of professional experience in machining, especially with complex prototype and production parts</li> <li>Experience in reading and understanding technical drawings including GD&amp;T </li> <li>Proficiency in modern Okuma and Fanuc control system</li> <li>Independent and transparent work style with a focus on teamwork </li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Understanding engineering drawings and using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.</li> <li>Ability to identify and resolve machining issues, optimize processes, and ensure quality.</li> <li>Comfort with basic arithmetic, algebra, and trigonometry for accurate machining.</li> <li>Commitment to Safety &amp; Compliance – Understanding of workplace safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout, and proper use of PPE.</li> <li>Ability to prioritize tasks, meet production deadlines, and minimize downtime.</li> <li>Willingness to collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality teams for smooth operations.</li></ul>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $34- $45 per hour.
