These generation resources include but are not limited to solar, battery, and natural gas sites that may range from several hundred kW to more than 1 GW. The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.Responsibilities • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise. • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees. • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems. • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity. • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Required/Basic Qualifications <ul><li>Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program no later than Summer 2026.</li><li>A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.</li><li>Previous Duke Energy internship/co-op experience</li></ul>Desired Qualifications <ul><li>Masters degree in Electrical Engineering</li><li>Professional Engineer</li><li>Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.</li><li>Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.</li><li>Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.</li><li>Good written and oral communication skills. This position will require documentation of generator interconnection studies and communication of results to interconnection customers.</li><li>Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.</li><li>Understanding of basic principles of project management.</li><li>Prior experience performing transmission analysis with PSSE and/or TARA</li><li>Experience with PSCAD</li><li>Prior experience preforming transmission related generator interconnection studies</li><li>Familiarity with FERC and state (FL) generator interconnection procedures.</li><li>Programming experience with Python.</li></ul>Working Conditions<ul><li>Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the Northpoint Office Building in Lake Mary, FL or the Energy Control Center in St. Petersburg, FL.</li></ul>Specific Requirements<ul><li>Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program</li><li>A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S.
