We distribute food through our on-site pay-what-you-can Farm Stand, pop up mobile farm stands, and donations to hunger relief organizations. We offer hands-on education and experiences through School and Group Visits, Farm Camp Farm Tours, Volunteer Opportunities, Jewish Agricultural Festivals, and other community events, inviting our neighbors to connect to the land, Jewish tradition, and each other.  Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 17 acres of land which we recognize as indigenous to the Kumeyaay and Luiseño peoples. Our Farm consists of vegetable production fields, education farm and gardens, a food forest, chickens, and compost operations. Coastal Roots Farm was incubated by the Leichtag Foundation in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2015.   Position Overview The Camp Counselor position is an entry-level, seasonal position. We are looking for someone who:<ul><li>Enjoys working with youth ages 3 and up and their families, with some experience working with children in an outdoor setting</li><li>Has some experience working with children in an outdoor setting</li><li>Is willing and enthusiastic about working within the Jewish community but may be of any (or no) faith or background</li><li>Is passionate about environmental, outdoor, Jewish and/or agriculture-based education</li><li>Builds and nurtures relationships with a wide variety of people including colleagues, youth, and families</li><li>Has effective listening and communication skills</li><li>Is a leader and team player</li><li>Is adaptable, creative, service-oriented, empathetic, enthusiastic, and sensitive to cultural differences</li><li>Works well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment</li><li>Is dedicated to the camper’s experience</li><li>Is at least 14 years old</li><li>Can participate in a 5-day, 40-hour Farm Camp staff training. </li></ul> Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: <ul><li>Supporting the delivery of the Farm’s Jewish and Farm-based Farm Camp program</li><li>Daily set up and clean up</li><li>Joining team meetings to plan for activities</li><li>Caring for campers and providing an unforgettable experience in a loving, non-judgmental environment</li></ul>Compensation $16.50-$17.50 commensurate with experience.  Typical Working Conditions The Camp Counselor will work mostly outdoors. There will be exposure to Southern California outside temperatures, chemicals used in the agricultural industry, and loud noises. Essential Physical Tasks The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
