Job Overview The Technical Manager, Energy, Industry, and Agriculture (EIA) is responsible for managing the quality and technical rigor of the program's daily operations. Areas of responsibility include auditing, technical program operations, key client management, quality management, business development, and staff management.The SCS Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Verification Program has been verifying carbon offsets since 2008 and to date has verified nearly 400 million tonnes of CO2e, providing GHG verification services to a wide array of industries including manufacturing, transportation, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. The GHG Verification Program draws upon SCS's established expertise to serve the global carbon market. SCS has been voted Best Verification Company several times. Buyers of SCS-verified offsets include several Fortune 100 companies and SCS is a recognized thought leader in the carbon and climate change communities.Relevant Standards/Schemes American Carbon Registry (ACR) California Air Resources Board Cap-and-Trade Program Climate Action Reserve SD VISta Verified Carbon Standard Other GHG Offset Programs and related carbon accounting approaches Other relevant voluntary and regulatory approaches Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnical Management<ul> <li>Serve as the lead technical auditor on large, complex audits</li> <li>Conduct on-site and desk audits in conformance with pertinent protocols</li> <li>Prepare and submit audit reports within established timelines</li> <li>Support technical staff in review of complex issues and ensure consistency of interpretation among staff and contractors</li> <li>Establish staff and contractor qualifications and ensure ongoing compliance with auditor requirements</li> <li>Develop and submit comments on normative standards or other documents</li> <li>Lead or support program meetings, calibration activities, and trainings</li></ul>Program Operations<ul> <li>Responsible for recruitment and hiring of staff or contractors to ensure sufficient operational capacity</li> <li>Support and provide initial and ongoing training for program staff</li> <li>Evaluate and calibrate staff and contractor performance and provide feedback</li> <li>Delegate audit assignments and internal responsibilities of auditing team</li> <li>Develop and document procedures to ensure efficient and complaint program operations</li> <li>Develop work instructions, internal guidance, and staff training material</li> <li>Serve as a technical resource to the program and provide mentorship and training to other team members; provide coaching to others on methods and tools to ensure the accuracy of work as well as organization policies and procedures for quality assurance</li></ul>Key Client Management<ul> <li>Oversee the audit process with key clients and audit team members</li> <li>Ensure a high level of customer service and client satisfaction</li> <li>Conduct technical report reviews generated by others</li> <li>Foster collaboration amongst team members, including providing opportunities for all group members to contribute and to provide constructive feedback, when appropriate; manage program complaints and investigations</li> <li>Provide suggestions to team managers and operations and/or create tools and systems for improvements in client service delivery systems and internal and external processes to increase audit quality and client satisfaction; manage client adverse actions, appeals, mediation, and compliance review</li> <li>Tailor communication (e.g., content, style, and medium) to diverse audiences; alter communication approach when needed to effectively deliver message in sensitive situations</li> <li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable protocols and standards</li></ul>Business Development and Strategy<ul> <li>Assist with the scoping and preparation of proposals</li> <li>Develop and maintain relationships with key clients</li> <li>Identify and develop opportunities to expand services into new markets</li></ul>Program Quality and Development<ul> <li>Develop and maintain program procedures and documents in compliance with quality system guidelines</li> <li>Develop and implement procedures to increase quality and efficiency of audit and certification services</li> <li>Develop work instructions, internal guidance, and staff training materials</li> <li>Lead internal and external audit process and ensure compliance issues are addressed</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications<ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Soil Science, Agronomy, or related field or</li> <li>Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Soil Science, Agronomy, or related field and</li> <li>5+ years of professional experience in a related field</li> <li>Experience in manufacturing, energy, industrial, agricultural, or other applicable sector</li> <li>Experience as a project developer or verifier for carbon offset projects</li> <li>Excellent technical writing, observation, and data management skills</li> <li>Strong communication abilities and demonstrated abilities in critical analysis</li> <li>Ability to complete time-sensitive projects and to provide realistic deadlines</li> <li>Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail</li> <li>Initiative and ability to work independently, responsive and adaptive to team environment</li> <li>Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access</li> <li>Ability to travel domestically and internationally</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul> <li>Excellent quantitative skills with an emphasis on coding</li> <li>Proficiency using GIS (ex: ArcMap, ArcPro, QGIS, Python, and/or R GIS packages)</li> <li>Proficiency in managing and processing remote sensing data</li> <li>Bilingual or Multilingual in Spanish and Portuguese</li> <li>CAR- or ARB-accredited Lead Verifier</li></ul>The above description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
