This role is essential for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and the effective management of occupational health and safety throughout the project lifecycle.<ul><li>Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments for the project.</li><li>Develop and implement Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures.</li><li>Monitor compliance with local and international environmental regulations and safety standards.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into project operations.</li><li>Provide training and support to project staff on environmental and safety best practices.</li><li>Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.</li><li>Prepare and maintain documentation related to environmental management and OHS performance.</li><li>Analyze safety metrics and environmental data to report on project compliance and performance.</li><li>Develop risk assessment strategies and recommend mitigation measures to minimize environmental and safety risks.</li><li>Facilitate communication with regulatory bodies and stakeholders regarding environmental and safety issues.</li><li>Promote a culture of environmental stewardship and safety awareness throughout the project team.</li></ul>With a track record of achievement in a related role, you will have gained your experience in a consultancy environment and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.Suitable applicants will have/be:<ul><li>Tertiary qualifications or a related discipline (e.g. Masters degree in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Sciences or similar field)</li><li>Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in environmental and social impact assessment and mitigation.</li><li>Experience in managing environmental &amp; OHS aspects of power sector projects.</li><li>Experience in managing environmental impacts of linear power distribution/ transmission sector projects. </li><li>Experience of working on Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) funded projects is preferable.</li><li>Strong communication skills (written &amp; verbal)</li></ul>SMEC is an equal opportunity employer.
