This engineer will join the design team to support the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of flight components. This individual must be self-driven, have a deep understanding of first principal engineering fundamentals, and have a broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines that enables them to wear many hats and solve a diverse set of problems. This position requires a relentless drive for engineering excellence and the ability to find balance between complex competing objectives and priorities. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to reality due to the fast paced work environment at Joby Aviation.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Design and create drawings for flight components in the Environmental Control System</li> <li>Build physics-based models and perform data driven analysis to inform design decisions</li> <li>Design test equipment and experiments to validate component designs</li> <li>Design equipment and tools to support the manufacturing, integration, and quality control of flight components</li> <li>Collaborate with design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, and integration teams to progress projects through the design, build, test, iterate loop.</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Pursuing undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering; previous co-op, internship, or related work experience required</li> <li>Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above at time of internship</li> <li>Available Summer 2026</li> <li>Excellent problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills while working with cross functional teams</li> <li>Strong analytical and practical understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacturing, fluid dynamics, heat transfer</li> <li>Ability to take a proactive hands-on approach to problem identification, prototyping, iterative design, validation testing, and troubleshooting</li> <li>Proficient with 3D CAD and 2D drawing software</li> <li>Practical manufacturing or machine shop experience </li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience with single or two phase cooling systems, ducting, electric motors, compressors, electronics, and other complex mechanical or electromechanical assemblies</li> <li>Experience designing for subtractive manufacturing, injection molding, assembly, composite layup, welding or other manufacturing processes</li> <li>Engineering experience in an R&amp;D, startup, engineering club or other fast paced environment</li> <li>Pursuing Master’s or PhD level degree</li> <li>Experience with CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE CAD</li></ul><p> </p><h2>Additional Information</h2><p><strong>Relocation Assistance:</strong> This position does not offer relocation assistance.
