We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking an intern to help design, build and test the most advanced electric powertrain in the industry. The person will design parts and assemblies, run tests to better understand our designs, and provide hands-on support to hardware builds. We expect our interns to take on a lot of ownership but will provide support and guidance to allow them to grow and be successful in a fast-paced, engineering-focused environment!</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Design components, systems, and test/assembly equipment </li> <li>Perform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisions </li> <li>Plan/execute tests to support design decisions </li></ul><ul> <li>Work with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardware</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Pursuing B.S./M.S. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science</li> <li>Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above at time of internship</li> <li>Available Summer 2026</li> <li>Excellent communication skills – able to communicate complicated technical matters efficiently </li> <li>Strong analytical background – uses first principles to direct design </li> <li>Experience with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing </li> <li>Proficiency with CAD (Computer Aided Design) </li> <li>Able to use sketching (or other rapid means) to communicate designs effectively </li> <li>Passion for elegant design and engineering </li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience with Dassault Systems CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design </li> <li>Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus) </li> <li>Experience with electric powertrains via Solar Car, Formula Electric, or similar projects</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p><strong>Relocation Assistance:</strong> This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.</p><p> </p><p>The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $22-$31/hr. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550-$7,800/month.
