Our system, called Horizon, consists of an EV charger, apartment energy management system, and building energy management system that measure the amount of current being used at an apartment and throttle the energy going to the charger to keep the apartment breaker from tripping.Moon Five is a Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) portfolio company, and participated in Berkeley Skydeck, Creative Destruction Labs, and Cleantech Open and is an Energy Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Incubatenergy Finalist.Job DescriptionAs an Electrical Engineering intern at Moon Five, you will help build up and test various parts of our system as we get ready to pilot generation 2 of our Horizon system. We are getting high power, electric vehicle test stations ready and will need help with various tasks such as test station assembly, bring up, calibration, and testing. There is an opportunity to flex into automation, firmware, and electrical design work for motivated interns. We will additionally need help with full system assembly and functional testing of our systems before being deployed into the field. This is a unique opportunity for you to get hands-on experience that will translate well to any career.Responsibilities<ul><li>Test station bring-up including: assembly, calibration, validation, and testing.</li><li>Test station automation.</li><li>Build and bring up of demonstration units / B-samples (includes wire harnesses, assembly, program, calibrate, test)</li><li>Design hardware to extend test coverage</li><li>Document calibration and testing processes</li></ul>Reach Goals<ul><li>Automate an OTA firmware update system</li><li>Extend test coverage by creating additional test scripts, and firmware validation</li><li>Design prototype hardware for the next generation of charger</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Minimum 2 years EE coursework, including applied lab courses.</li><li>Knowledge of electrical design principles including voltage, current, frequency, thermal propagation and constraints.</li><li>Experience with typical bench tools: soldering-iron, power-supply, load, DMM, oscilloscope, logic analyzer.</li><li>Ability to read and write Python scripts.</li><li>Capable of reading schematics and explaining how they work.</li><li>Enthusiastic about creating engaging documentation.</li><li>Hands-on experience with circuit bring-up and troubleshooting.</li><li>Ability to come to our office at least twice a week (located at 5th and Camelia in Berkeley).</li></ul>Bonus<ul><li>Design or usage of automated test equipment.</li><li>Experience with embedded Linux systems &amp; micro-controllers.</li><li>Circuit debugging experience including rework tools.</li><li>Circuit assembly familiarity including processes and hand-tools such as solder masks, paste, re-flow platens or ovens.</li><li>PCB development experience including OSH or personal projects you can discuss.</li><li>Contributions to open-source projects.</li></ul>Work Expectations<ul><li>Able to come into the Berkeley office at least 1 day per week</li><li>Hours: 10-15/wk</li></ul>
