We’re looking for a Scientist I with strong and diversified wet lab skills to work with our Genetics Team within the Research Department. This strategic role will work with an interdisciplinary team to generate, analyze, and interpret genetic data to better understand carbon sequestration in macroalgae.

You Will:

  • Proactively contribute to various aspects of Running Tide’s research projects including but not limited to DNA/RNA extraction and library construction as well as macroalgal tissue culture.
  • Analyze datasets with the help of R statistics (or a similar software). Prepare and present progress summaries.
  • Work with others on the Genetics and Agronomy teams to optimize and develop genetic and genomic wet lab protocols/workflows
  • Help with the set-up and maintenance of the laboratory space and equipment.
  • Contribute to experimental designs for both laboratory and coastal experiments
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining valuable IP.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of project data and other materials as needed.
  • Mentor, train, and transfer new methods to others.

You Have (or You Are):

  • Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding or a related field with an excellent track record of productivity.
  • 3+ years of molecular laboratory experience or closely related field. MSc and PhD years count towards this number if substantiated by relevant publications.
  • An independent thinker who is willing to challenge conventional ideas and the status quo, if they feel it is necessary.
  • Able to perform under tight timelines and with the agility to change course as needed.
  • Future-oriented, innovating mindset with demonstrated record of developing or implementing new ideas and technologies within a company or academic lab environment.
  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Collaborative and willing to engage with, and contribute to company-wide discussions on research and development tracks, experimental designs, and strategic planning for overall company direction.
  • Always willing to learn a new skill / how to use a new technology.

Bonus Points:

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Inventory Management Systems (LIMS) such as Benchling
  • Vector design and construction (especially golden gate cloning).
  • Experience in plant tissue culture medium formulation.
  • Experience with macroalgal organisms.

Location and Timing:This position is an in-person, full time salaried hire located in the 39N AgTech district of St. Louis, MO, USA. Running Tide Technologies is headquartered in Portland, ME, USA. We are looking to have this position start in summer of 2022.
