Job Description

Solar power is the largest source of new energy in the world. Raptor Maps is a fast-growing, venture-backed, MIT-born climate tech startup that is building software to enable the solar energy industry to scale. Parties across the entire solar lifecycle use Raptor Maps’ data model to manage ever growing utility-scale solar portfolios. We are an industry leader with hundreds of customers, including owners, builders, operators, and aerial service providers, across over 40 countries with 200+ million solar panels under management. Our software platform is essential in the fight against climate change.
 
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering leader to spearhead our newly formed Insights product team. The team’s mission is to enhance intelligence and decision making across the solar industry by making the world’s solar data usable and accessible. This is unique opportunity for a software leader to make a meaningful impact on climate change by removing one of the key hurdles to scaling solar power across the world. 
 
This is a hands on technical leadership and management position. You will be responsible for the technical direction, execution / delivery, and overall health of the team. You will directly manage engineers on the squad, providing mentoring, career growth, and learning opportunities. 
 
You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and your engineering team to design scalable, reliable data systems that enable the creation of analytics products both inside and outside of Raptor Maps. Your team will design data architecture, deploy algorithms and predictive models, and develop web and data API products. You will leverage both SaaS and open source strategies to lead the charge on data sharing across the solar industry.
 
In addition, you will have the opportunity to lead our Data Guild, a company funded, employee-organized group created to promote the advancement of data science in the Solar community.

Responsibilities

    • Lead technical design for big data systems and pipelines. 
    • Work with product management to set team priorities and create execution plans.
    • Customize development processes and drive execution with the team.
    • Support team members through pairing sessions, code reviews, and PRs
    • Mentor and guide career growth of direct reports. Promote the dissemination of Data Engineering knowledge beyond the team.

Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience in data engineering
    • Experience in designing and maintaining ETL pipelines with tools such as Airflow, Prefect or Luigi
    • Experience with large distributed data environments and computing tools (e.g. Kafka, Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, etc.)
    • Understanding of web application development and API's
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor engineers
    • Ability to work directly with product management and data scientists to translate product requirements into technical plans 
    • Proficiency with AWS infrastructure
    • Strong leadership skills. Servant leader with humility and a team-first mentality.
    • Must be primarily located in the contiguous US and authorized to work in the US
