Research Associate, Materials
Job Description
Here at Modern Meadow, we are harnessing the power of design, biology, and engineering to produce a range of bioproducts. As we continue to grow, we are seeking to hire a Materials Research Associate I in the Materials Science R&D Team.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with PI and project team to plan and execute laboratory experiments based on established protocols or procedures with limited explanation and supervision
- Execute experiments including, but not limited to, material formulation, polymer processing, characterization, and materials testing
- Analyze, discuss, and draw conclusions from data and suggest next steps in experiment/process/study
- Maintain accurate and complete research records to document experimental/R&D work consistent with company policy and legal requirements
- Communicate progress through written summaries, reports and periodic technical presentations to broader team(s)
- Contribute to patent applications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and research reports with guidance from technical mentor
- Keep up with the latest scientific and engineering developments by reading the current literature and attending conferences
- Contribute to lab equipment maintenance and safety to help create a safe, effective and efficient working environment
- Help facilitate projects through adherence to established project or company timelines
- Operate in a fast-paced rapidly evolving environment that supports fundamental R&D, technology scale-up, and product development
Requirements:
- BS in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or equivalent
- Strong foundational understanding of materials science principles including materials structure, processing, properties, and their relationships
- Experience working in a laboratory setting and knowledge of general lab safety, PPE, and chemical handling
- Possesses good organizational, communication, analytical, computer, and technical writing skills
- High degree of personal accountability, with the ability to work independently and deliver results within project specific timelines
- Self-motivated, passionate about your work, and enthusiastic about contributing to building a positive team spirit
- Experience with materials characterization and testing (i.e., microscopy, rheology, dynamical mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, tensile, tear, abrasion testing) is strongly preferred, but not required
- Experience with polymer processing methods such as thermoforming, extrusion, coating is preferred but not required
- Research experience with proteins and/or bio-polymers is a plus
