Job Description

About Wunder

Wunder is building a Modern Energy Company.

We were founded with one simple vision: to address the greatest crisis of our generation by accelerating the deployment of solar energy. In doing so, we help businesses, municipalities, and schools save money by delivering clean on-site power. We convert simple warehouses into electrified industrial platforms built for the future. We enable the nation’s leading commercial and industrial real estate firms to capture the benefits of solar across their properties. We align ESG goals with revenue targets, and the renewable energy assets we’re deploying today will power America’s tomorrow.

Wunder currently holds more than $1 billion in solar assets under management and capital commitments. Our team has evaluated more than 10,000 properties for solar across all 50 states. Our average solar system - about 480 kilowatts in size - can offset 350,000 pounds of coal burned each year of system operation!

The Role

We have an amazing opportunity for a creative and multidisciplinary Product Designer to join our fast-growing team and advance Astra, Wunder’s proprietary solar project development software platform. Astra provides the technical infrastructure and internal tooling necessary to imbue our teammates with superpowers. Astra unlocks step-function advancements in efficiency, throughput, cost reduction, and customer experience by reimagining key solar project development workflows (e.g., contracting, system design and engineering, permitting, construction management, project finance, ongoing system operations).

In this role you will work cross-functionally with Wunder’s Product, Engineering, and business teams to understand the solar project development problem space intimately. You will need to flex your user experience, user interface, and visual design skills to generate solutions that are both elegant and impact-oriented. You will need a firm understanding of design systems, best practices, and modern tools. From time to time you may also be called upon to help build out Wunder’s brand, improving assets like our website or consulting on critical external materials.

This role is special because you will be leveraging great design to accelerate renewable energy and actively fight climate change. The powerful tools and efficient processes you develop will directly lead to more solar panels on rooftops across America.

If you’re looking to build the next iPhone app for teenagers or the next SaaS product for agencies this role isn’t for you. But if you obsess about your users (at Wunder, they’re often your teammates) as much as your pixels, are passionate about solving complex problems on a daily basis, and want to fight climate change, then this is the role for you.

About You

  • Strong Product Design Experience  - You have 5+ years of experience working as a Product Designer, ideally in the technology industry where you’ve been designing high-quality software or web/mobile apps. You’re experienced at finding elegant solutions to complex problems, and you possess a knack for looking around corners to spot edge cases.

  • You’re a Swiss Army Knife - You’re skilled in Visual, UX, and UI design, and can pull in the right  tool (Creative Suite, Sketch/Figma/Framer, whimsical, etc…) for the right job. You’re also happiest when designing, whether that's software or occasionally in support of other design needs across the organization. No Code Necessary - You do NOT need to write code (we have a team of skilled software engineers for that), but you should at least have an understanding  of frontend development, informing you what can and can’t be done.

  • Strong Product Intuition - You’re not just a pixel-pusher, you like to get into the weeds, conduct user research (a.k.a. discuss issues your teammates are blocked by), prototype interactions, and test new workflows. You have an ability to focus on a problem at hand while thoughtfully considering the overarching product strategy.

  • Process Driven - You love leading design projects across the entire product lifecycle, knowing when to conduct more research, rough out wireframes, test low-fi prototypes, or hand off pixel-perfect design files.

  • You’re a Pragmatic Minimalist - Sure, you’re an artist, but you also love taking business problems and finding simple elegant solutions. You are good at collecting data, synthesizing it, strategizing at a high-level, and then drilling down to the pixel level to achieve your goals.

  • You Have a Team Ethos - You thrive in a creative, inventive, fast-paced rapid-growth environment, with people who are passionate about their work and mission. You’re not just excited to work cross-functionally, you crave it.
