Job Description

We are searching for a Payroll & Benefits Associate responsible for ensuring our most important asset, our people, are compensated as expected and in accordance with the law.   We are hiring 1 candidate for this role. You will be based at our office in San Carlos, CA (preferred), or Natick, MA, and report to our Director of Finance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage payroll and employee benefits. Includes accurately and timely processing payroll and contractor payments observing set pay schedules, employee offer letters, other compensation agreements, and employment dates.
  • Educate and answer questions from employees on their compensation and benefits as well as diligently resolve any issues related to such.
  • Work with benefits providers to facilitate successful employee enrollment and offboarding as well as ensure appropriate corporate billing.
  • Maintain compliance with employee withholdings and corporate contributions to 401k accounts (currently use Betterment) and any future FSAs programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local taxing and labor authorities with regard to employee compensation.
  • Manage employment verifications, unemployment inquiries, and garnishment setup.
  • Establish clear and appropriate controls for employee pay and benefits, including creating and maintaining sufficient documentation of actions taken, off cycle checks, and variable comp.  
  • Support the People and Finance teams, including onboarding and offboarding employees, coordinating visa applications, maintaining our HRIS, and processing accounts payable.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of payroll experience in a multi-state setting including new state registration, reporting, and closing accounts
  • Experience working with multiple payroll systems along with HR Information Systems (HRIS) and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Experience with Rippling, Greenhouse, Lever, and/or Betterment a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
