Job Description

WHO YOU ARE

You are creative, proactive, meticulous, and hands-on. You understand the potential of new materials and the importance of developing robust test methods to bring to life new products and establish confidence with both internal and external stakeholders. You combine expertise in materials and measurement science to rigorously develop and implement new test methodologies to establish data-driven customer value propositions. You will leverage your previous experience in material and test method development to collaborate with a diverse team of Materials, Equipment, Process and Application representatives and help drive the development of novel, materials-based battery products

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 
  • Develop test methods in line with industry standards (ASTM, ISO, etc.), as well as develop novel test methods to meet customer and internal requirements.
  • Generate and maintain documentation for new test methods. Clearly and consistently communicate these procedures to internal and external partners.
  • Lead Competitive Benchmarking activities, including material identification, sample acquisition, and testing.
  • Maintain internal test capabilities, including coordinating regular instrument calibration and recurring training for engineers and technicians.
  • Implement and validate test methods with customers and partners through lab-to-lab data comparisons.
  • Coordinate material characterization efforts with external partners.
  • Lead/support cross-functional teams in resolving key quality issues through Root Cause Investigations.

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiarity with characterization of lithium ion batteries, polymeric composites, coatings and/or ceramics including but not limited to: Mechanical Properties, Thermal Properties, Electrochemical Properties, Surface Characterization, Rheology, and other commonly used analytical techniques used for materials.
  • Strong track record of utilizing GR&R and other Measurement Science techniques to ensure test method validity and equipment capability.
  • History of working with materials relevant to the lithium ion battery industry.
  • Experience working with statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab).
  • Excellent communicator, who can clearly communicate complex results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on, motivated and collaborative with excellent time management and prioritization skills; comfortable working alone and in cross-functional teams.
  • PhD degree in engineering or physical sciences and 3+ years of industry experience (or equivalent) in a relevant industry with significant hands-on materials testing experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a periodic basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building)
