What will you do?

As Sealed’s Strategic Finance Director, you will report directly to the VP of Finance and work together to build a strategic finance function at Sealed to translate operational data from across the business into sound financial insights in (near) real time to guide the company as we expand across the country and grow our revenue 10x over the next few years.

As leader of the Strategic Finance team, you will be responsible for forecasting, reporting, evaluating and explaining the company’s financial performance and for partnering with business leaders to help inform and guide key operational and strategic decisions. From the new frontiers of project finance for energy efficiency assets to the fundamentals of traditional FP&A, i.e. annual financial planning, monthly rolling forecasts, management reporting, and detailed operational review sessions, the overarching goal of the function is to improve the transparency and understanding of the underlying economics and financial health of our business and to enable more effective business performance management. 

Specifically, you will:

  • Build and then oversee maintenance and updating of company-wide operating model
  • Own the forecasting, reporting, and analysis functions for Sealed and related special purposes entities, including managing the monthly rolling forecast process, actively engaging and managing relevant stakeholders as needed
  • Partner with the business to identify, assess, define and codify the financial and operating metrics that effectively explain business performance and proactively identify and communicate business trends, anomalies and potential inefficiencies that appear in these metrics
  • Proactively work to improve forecasting and reporting processes, effectively balancing the trade-off of accuracy, materiality and effort for both the team and other stakeholders, including project finance lenders  
  • Develop standard and ad hoc financial models and analysis in support of key business questions and decision-making processes, including product pricing, project financing, and new product development
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with business partners and leverage the combination of business knowledge and data-based analysis to influence decision-making
  • Understand and be able to expertly communicate the businesses vision, strategic and operational priorities, business model and high-level economics
  • Lead and develop a small but mighty team of high-potential finance professionals

Requirements

  • Strong desire to work in climate tech
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in related field (strategic corporate finance, private equity/venture capital, investment banking, management consulting and/or equivalent) (mandatory)
  • At least 2+ years of hands-on financial forecasting and analysis experience in a high-growth, early and/or mid-stage organization (preferred)
  • Motivated to build, mentor, and develop a team and have 2+ years experience managing direct report(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collect, manage, analyze and extract key insights from quantitative data
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business decisions through logical reasoning and the effective presentation of recommendations and alternatives
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate and influence effectively across functions and levels of management
  • Solid understanding of key accounting concepts and standards
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and become an expert in new software tools
  • Expert in Excel, with experience creating dynamic models using complex formulas 
  • You want to work in a fast-paced environment with constant change
  • You are resourceful and not afraid to roll up your sleeves
