Position: Senior Manager, State Government Affairs  

Location: Remote,  preferably in the Corn Belt or Chesapeake Bay area 

Pivot Bio is seeking a Senior Manager, State Government Affairs to lead the company’s government affairs, policy, political and legislative strategies by representing the company’s interest before state legislatures, state officials and industry associations. The ideal candidate will also inform and/or seek input from key internal partners for key legislative, political, and public policy issues while developing and maintaining productive working relationships with elected and appointed state leaders and key partners in certain states. 

Responsibilities:  

  • The position will develop a comprehensive state government affairs strategy, oversee the implementation process of that strategy in key states, and provide assistance in communications, external affairs, and special events.     
  • Work closely with the Head of Government Relations to build and strengthen the organization’s role and reputation as a leader in our field in the states we have facilities and do business in, as well as in states where we have developing markets.   
  • Develop and propose education and outreach tactics and public policy and legislative solutions to advance the company's business goals and objectives.  
  • Build and foster long-term working relationships with various state and local government agencies, officials, legislative leaders and opinion leaders including industry stakeholders, customers, and trade groups. 
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with other departments within the organization to stay informed of new initiatives, products, and services. 
  • Partner with Regulatory, Legal, and Commercial in implementation of strategies before state legislators and regulatory bodies. 
  • Identify opportunities to support organizational initiatives and develop key messages, materials and programs to promote these initiatives with stakeholders. 
  • Advise, educate, and engage employees on legislative, political, and public policy issues impacting the company. 

Qualifications and Experience:   

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in state governmental affairs, legislative, public policy or public administration, political campaigns, communications, or public relations. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Business, Political Science/Government or related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • Knowledge of crop input, environment and sustainability, renewable fuels and tax issues. 
  • Proactively develops and executes innovative approaches that influence public policy, gathering input and collaborating internally/externally as appropriate. 
  • Ability to analyze sophisticated issues, interpret and communicate in concise, clear, and useful formats (including presentations, formal written documents and informal communication). 
  • Demonstrated planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Role requires 25%-50% travel/driving to diverse urban and rural locations.
