We are backed by top VC firms and our ground-breaking technology is based on work done by researchers at Stanford University. Do you want to learn about and work on this critical part of the future energy economy?  QuantumScape is seeking a Principal Cathode Development Process Engineer to join the Cell Engineering & Process Development team to help drive electrode preparation activities to efficient sustain, improve methods and support the development of new processing techniques to increase product performance and reliability.  The individual in this role will lead cathode process development and scale-up with internal teams and external partners and develop next-generation cathode electrode process and technology for QuantumScape solid-state cell products. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify the process obstacles and test various coating, calendaring, slitting, punching, and storage management to optimize the process of the cathode electrode
  • Work with procurement team to qualify cathode processing equipment in pilot and industrial scale
  • Establish quality control specifications for the processes and cathode materials
  • Conduct proof-of-concept DOE to meet the customer's energy density requirement as well as cell performance
  • Bring expertise in cathode active material's processing properties, including NMC, NCA, and LFP.
  • Work closely with the R&D team to develop new cathode electrode for next generation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS/PhD in chemical engineering, material science, physics, or chemistry (or a related field)
  • Proven experience (PhD with 6 years or MS with 8years) with process development in lithium-ion battery manufacturing
  • Experience in pilot or mass production-scale lithium-ion cathode process
  • Prior experience with quality control, FMEA, six sigma 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Cell design (all component, cathode, anode, electrolyte) and evaluation experience is plus
