Job Description

As an IT Manager/Director, your mission will be to build and maintain digital infrastructure to enable scientists, engineers, and non-technical team members to quickly, safely, and securely do their jobs.

If you are a self-starter who is able to research, recommend, implement, and maintain new systems and software to fit the rapidly evolving needs of a fast-paced startup environment and have the ability to work closely with a small dynamic operations team dedicated to making order out of chaos, we want to meet you!

This position will be based in our Natick, MA office with the occasional travel to San Carlos, CA office.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deploy and maintain internal and external applications, including licensing, single sign on, and Windows Active Directory
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new applications and technologies
  • Build & maintain internal wiki for with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
  • Recruit and manage future support desk technicians and junior level IT employees
  • Manage onsite networks, Wi-Fi, desktop/laptop and security systems: – design, implement, maintain and supervise vendors
  • Manage legacy and out of production technology
  • Install and configure specialized hardware and software
  • Manage firewall and VPN for application and end-user access to and from the Internet
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups and system updates, and through increasing end-user awareness
  • Coordinate and perform the onsite recovery of systems and networks including hardware replacement when necessary
  • Develops and updates processes for disaster recovery
  • Oversee third-party virtual support for Windows and Mac desktop computers and applications and lifecycle administration, and step in with hands-on support as needed
  • Assist with employee onboarding and off-boarding, setting up computers, decommissioning end of life equipment
  • Some on-call coverage required before and after hours – including weekends and holidays, to deal with any major issues
  • Ability to be onsite in Natick at least 3 days per week and during emergencies as needed
  • Ability to travel between Natick and San Carlos, CA as needed

PRIOR EXPERIENCE & PROFESSONAL QUALITIES

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical people
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Significant IT experience and comfort with PC, Mac and Linux environments as well as iOS and Android
  • Comfort with using, teaching and managing all Microsoft Products on the web, Mac and PC
  • 7 to 10 years experience with security administration required; experience with OpenVPN, SSO and Azure preferred
  • Five plus years' experience working in a fast-paced startup environment highly preferred
  • Extremely patient and enjoys training a wide variety of users of different skill levels (including those unfamiliar with technology)
  • Strong scripting and automation skills preferred
