Job Description

Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years.

To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". The Heat Batteries are charged from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency, and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.

Rondo Energy has an immediate opening for a Customer Application Engineer to support the design and commercialization of Rondo’s proprietary heat battery technology.

In this role, you will work closely with the Rondo team, external partners, and prospective customers to define complete system solutions which deliver zero-carbon, reliable heat for customer projects. You will conduct thermo-economic analyses to identify configurations that maximize the value created by Rondo technology and develop the technical information critical to creating and securing a robust pipeline of project opportunities.

Responsibilities

- Develop technical information packages for prospective customers across a variety of industries and markets.
- Identify and select equipment configurations that best meet the needs of customers.
- Define and communicate specific requirements of potential and confirmed orders to the internal team for project execution.
- Lead discussions on Rondo technology with prospective customers and external partners.
- Create and present economic value models for specific projects and opportunities to
optimize Rondo’s offering.
- Conduct industrial and power market evaluations to identify attractive growth opportunities.
- Design and develop internal analytical tools/applications to facilitate the effective operation of the applications engineering team.
- Work closely with other functional teams for real-time product design and project implementation based on external feedback.

Qualifications

- 5 years of engineering experience in a relevant industrial field, preferably involving customer and/or external partner engagement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy, applied thermodynamics, and/or industrial heat applications.
- Bachelor’s degree - Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Mining or Petroleum Engineering preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated creativity through a proven track record of innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems that cross multiple disciplines on tight timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Comfort with delivering analyses based on uncertain or incomplete information.
- Experience with economic value modeling practices and/or market analysis.
- Experience with modeling renewable energy, energy storage systems, and industrial
energy efficiency improvements is valuable.
- Expertise with high-temperature heat transfer, steam cycles, or power generation is a plus.
- Experience with standard Excel functions (vlookup, offset, match, etc.) required. Scriptwriting experience in Python, Julia, R, VBA, etc. is valuable.

This position is compatible with remote work. Proximity to existing team members and prospective partners will be considered. Preferred locations include the San Francisco Bay, Seattle, Kansas City, Reno, and Bakersfield, CA areas. The role will require to travel up to 30%.
