Job Description

OVERVIEW & IMPACT

UCSF is seeking an independent and self-motivated recent graduate or masters student with strong science coursework and some working knowledge of building, energy and water conservation with more technical skills around energy efficiency, education and energy program management. This position will require the individual to work independently, be respectful of the health environment, engage and educate staff and stakeholders at levels, field survey to identify opportunities aimed at reducing our environmental impact of energy use, water use, and utility efficiency and consumption.

The Fellow will work closely with the UCSF Campus Energy Manager and play a role in program design, launch, implementation and assessment.

Projects

  • Electrification: Survey all gas burning equipment (furnaces, boilers, heaters, etc) and create an actionable database from which we can quickly query and use to determine where and when we should replace with electrified equipment in order to accelerate the shift to decarbonization.

  • Water reuse: Potential projects in our pipeline to capture and reuse water that is currently going to sewer. These include condensation from chilling coils, reverse osmosis reject water, roof and surface water runoff. The uses include irrigation, cooling tower makeup, and cooling for processes.

  • Energy efficiency: Projects which may require additional help include advanced lighting, controls of HVAC, and heat pump conversion of hot water heater.

  • Energy Monitoring: Producing dashboards to view energy information for buildings on campus.

     

Roles: Directly create the survey and determine the right information needed, get the data, develop the database. Work with our team analysts, and engineers on various tasks associated with the projects above. It would be beneficial if the applicant had an engineering background, database, energy and water backgrounds.

CLIMATE CORPS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Availability for the full-time, 10-month Fellowship program

  • Climate Corps Fellows must have completed a 4-year degree by the position start date.

  • A connection to the placement location. This is an equal opportunity position and we prefer to place a candidate who already lives in the region being served.

  • Experience in and the drive to address racism and create race equity with the team members and programmatically.
