Job Description

Asset Resolution (AR) is an impact driven climate start-up. Our vision is of a financial system that sets the global economy on a net zero emissions path. Our data and analytics help clients, mostly financial institutions, decarbonize their portfolios. Our clients include large global organisations such as users of the PACTA tool applied by over 1,000 financial institutions, PwC in its  Climate Excellence Tool, and Barclays in its  BlueTrackTM tool. Our clients access our data and analytics through subscription licensing.

About this position

If you’ve ever wanted to take a start-up’s data infrastructure to the next level while having positive impact on society, this role is for you. As a Data Engineer at Asset Resolution, your primary responsibility will be to build a data lake to integrate our data sources, and the parsers and data pipelines that we use to populate it.

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our team who loves to engineer complex data sources and build databases to house and process data. We are looking for someone who embraces a start-up mentality and is excited to take on new challenges as we discover them.

Responsibilities

We have an existing PostgreSQL database that we are expanding with a data lake to onboard and process our data more efficiently while scaling up our activities. To start, you will help maintain and update the existing database with our data team as a form of onboarding while working on the data lake design. Because you will be the primary developer for the project, you will need to be able to handle all parts of the process, ranging from design to implementation. Some example challenges that might arise include integrating and bridging distinct data sources, managing user authentication and permissions, and writing documentation.

Once primary construction of the data lake is complete, you will help implement our product roadmap. You’ll work closely with the rest of our team to resolve issues across many domains, beyond ordinary engineering tasks. You will for example:

  • Update and maintain the data lake
  • Add new data sources to the data lake and the database
  • Help build an API and a front-end data access platform
  • Evaluate new technologies for inclusion into our tech stack
  • Manage our Azure instance

Required skills and experience

Required skills

  • Data lake construction (or another data backend solution)
  • R, Python, or shell scripting and automation
  • ETL creation and management
  • Data infrastructure design
  • Clean code practices, including TDD, and CI/CD

  • English as a working language

Preferred skills

  • Interest in sustainability

  • Experience developing strong and flexible data QA processes
  • History of designing data processing workflows
  • History of integrating business needs into design
  • Mentoring of team members

Location and duration

Flexible:

  • Freelance or full-time employment.
  • Remote, with a preference for Paris or Berlin in-person.

About us

We were established in 2018 in Paris and work globally. We are expanding rapidly to support the growing needs of financial institutions. Our ever-growing database includes 300,000+ physical assets across the largest carbon emitting sectors and covers 55,000+ companies linked to 15,000+ financial securities. For each asset and company in the database we offer a suite of forward-looking climate-relevant indicators including location, production capacity, production, emissions intensity, and emissions. We offer access to this unparalleled dataset through data products and analytics to turn this data into. Clients use our data and analytics to analyse the alignment of their financial portfolios with low-carbon scenarios, assess financial portfolios’ and companies’ transition and physical risks, quantify our clients’ financed emissions, and develop bespoke climate analyses for financial institutions.

We offer you

  • A dynamic team of data scientists, analysts, sustainable finance specialists, and developers passionate about the climate transition.
  • A young company that spun off from the 2° Investing Initiative, a leading international, non-profit think tank working to align financial markets and regulations with the Paris Agreement goals.
  • A small organization that is rapidly growing, providing a lot of opportunities to get hands-on experience, make your voice heard and help shape our future.
  • A mission that brings together technology and impact.
  • Flexibility in terms of working hours and location.
