Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Working within OVO’s Trading function, this role sits within the Renewable Energy Trading team.  This team of Originators and Analysts is responsible for the effective procurement of renewable energy for OVO’s customer base through both direct electricity offtake from renewable facilities and the procurement of green certificates.  

This external facing role will be critical to delivering OVO’s green commitments.  The role holder will be tasked with the day to day management of OVOs green certificate positions, including building partnerships with brokers and direct counterparties. They will manage certificate deals through the full trade lifecycle from origination to settlement and compliance, to ensure that OVO complies with its green commitments in the most cost effective manner.

OVO’s Trading function is a dynamic and fast paced environment that manages over £1 bn of wholesale energy requirements and £400m of green certificates each year.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:-

• Procurement of green certificates (REGOs, GoOs, ROCs, RGGOs, Carbon Offset Certificates, Gas Generator Declarations) in line with agreed trading strategies
• Negotiation of commercial arrangements linked to certificate trades
• Management of Green Certificate settlements and compliance processes
• Monitoring of our certificate traded position vs forecast requirements
• Monitoring renewables market developments
• Ensuring Ovo is aware of and compliant with all of our green certificate trading requirements
• Supporting the PPA team with quoting for new PPA business, as well as managing relationships with with existing renewable generators
• Supporting the negotiation of large scale PPA agreements and providing other support to the wider Renewable Energy Trading team, as required

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have

• A strong commercial mindset, you must be comfortable negotiating deals to achieve target outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills. You should be someone who enjoys dealing with a variety of external partners
• A demonstrable high level of attention to detail, with a methodical approach to your work and a drive to ensure all elements of your work are completed to a high standard
• Confidence using large datasets, to provide analysis of market risks and opportunities
• Flexibility; with a willingness to contribute across a range of projects.
• A drive to learn and develop new skills; you will be a creative thinker who thrives off direct responsibility
• You will be a team player who thrives in a challenging environment and a self-starter, comfortable working both autonomously and with colleagues to deliver value in a small, high-functioning team.
• Some experience working in a sales, commercial or customer facing role would be advantageous
• Experience using Excel for numerical modeling; SQL or tableau would be advantageous
