About EvergrowAt Evergrow, we seek to build and sustain a carbon-neutral world. We plan to do so by unlocking solutions which reduce 1 gigaton of CO2e by 2030, scaling to 1 gigaton per year every year thereafter.
Specifically, we are developing a suite of products and services for decarbonization project developers. We are starting with a financial product that shields developers from carbon credit price volatility, helping them access the capital needed to get their projects off the ground. We will be quickly expanding this suite of products and services so that we can become the ultimate support system for decarbonization developers.
Our team has spent time at leading companies (e.g., Google, BCG, McKinsey & Co., D.E. Shaw, Pinterest) and academic institutions (e.g., Columbia, MIT, Stanford, Princeton). We are backed by leading investors from Silicon Valley and beyond, including XYZ Venture Capital, Congruent Ventures, First Round Capital, Garuda Ventures, My Climate Journey, Skyview Ventures, and founders and senior executives from Plaid, Brex, Twitch, Instacart, Charm Industrial, Living Carbon, and Bridgewater Associates.
You don't need to match every listed requirement to apply for a position, and we especially encourage individuals with traditionally under-represented backgrounds to apply. In particular, we are seeking people of color, women, those with disabilities, and those who identify as LGBTQIA to join our team. We want to build a company with diverse perspectives because we know they make our team stronger and better equipped to serve all decarbonization stakeholders.
About this Role
At Evergrow, we are developing a suite of products and services to support developers of decarbonization projects. Our customers operate primarily in regulated carbon markets (e.g., the California Cap & Trade, the EU Emissions Trading System), and our products themselves are regulated by various Federal and State authorities. For this reason, legal and regulatory affairs is a key strategic function at our company, and we are looking for someone to build and own this function. We are rapidly growing in terms of team size, product offerings, and markets covered, and are therefore seeking an experienced professional to lead our legal and regulatory work.
In this role, you will work closely with our CEO and other leadership to guide the development and launch of new products, as well as new market entry. You will also be our primary liaison with regulators. Ideally, you bring a track record of shepherding small, fast-moving teams through complex legal and regulatory landscapes. If you thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments while bringing deep legal expertise, this role is for you.
We strongly prefer candidates who have a demonstrated passion for solving the climate crisis. Our entire team is dedicated to finding solutions to this challenge, and we are looking for likeminded people to join us as we grow.

You will be responsible for ...

  • Providing comprehensive legal advice and guidance across the company's work, including with product development and deployment, as well as regulatory compliance (e.g., to design new products, launch in new markets)
  • Informing the design and launch of financial structures which support our products (e.g., new funds, notes issuance)
  • Preparing, reviewing, and/or negotiating contracts, agreements and other legal documentation required for our business and financial operations
  • Keeping a pulse on emerging issues and market practices within fintech and decarbonization finance, providing updates and recommendations to leadership, and developing and implementing policies, practices, and other strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate or reduce risk
  • Managing external counsel and other advisors/service providers as necessary to provide supportive and specialty legal services, and reviewing and tracking costs against budgets

This might be for you if you have...

  • J.D. and current license to practice law in one or more U.S. jurisdictions
  • 5+ years of experience in a top-tier law firm and/or-in house with experience in any of the following areas: energy, project finance, derivatives, and securities law
  • In-house experience at a high-growth venture-backed startup a plus
  • Excellent legal drafting skills, and the ability to understand complex legal and regulatory issues and recommend and implement strategies, decisions, and solutions
  • Experience interfacing with carbon market regulators (e.g., the California Air Resources Board, EU ETS/European Commission) is a plus
  • A strong, demonstrated desire to work on climate
