Job Description

We’re an international agtech startup pioneering an ambitious mission in a budding industry where agriculture meets technology. Through the use of data-driven insights, natural microbiology, and innovative digital technologies, Indigo Ag helps farmers make farming more sustainable to combat climate change and protect the environment. Our grain, carbon, and transportation marketplaces enable farmers to profit from those sustainable choices.

Our mission is unique, and therefore our teams are too: from multigenerational farming experts who understand the land as though it were an extension of themselves, to cutting-edge technologists and scientists on the frontier of innovation, our teams are a reflection of the range of the stakeholders we serve: the Earth, the Farmer, and the Consumer. Indigo is extraordinary, and we owe that to the individuals who make up our community and enable success through diversity of thought, experience, background, perspective, race, sexuality, gender, age, and everything else that makes a person uniquely themselves. Connected by a common vision and empowered by diversity, we aren’t ordinary, and neither are you. Embrace your extraordinary and join Indigo in cultivating a healthier planet fueled by unique game changers.

The Team:

Indigo’s Carbon Program is facilitating removing Carbon Dioxide and other greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere through helping farmers transition to “regenerative” practices, which have been shown to draw carbon from the air into the soil as well as reduce emissions of things like Methane and Nitrous Oxide (this is often called Carbon Farming).

Applying this globally at scale is by some margin the single most powerful decarbonization mechanism currently known. Our program enables farmers to monetize a positive climate impact, ensuring economic viability at scale.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Sustainability Enrollment team, which builds & owns the applications and tools that help farmers navigate getting into a Sustainability Program. The work covers a wide range, from tools to collect geospatial information about farms, over complex contract management, to recommender systems to guide farmers, to name just a few aspects.

As a Sr. Engineering Manager at Indigo you will:

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UX designers, data scientists, researchers, and other Engineers to drive our product forward
  • Expertly review code
  • Mentor and coach other engineers
  • Drive technical planning and optimize processes within your team
  • Cultivate a culture of execution excellence and rigor, incl. guiding day-2-day execution of your teams
  • Support, develop and grow a healthy team
You might be a good fit if you:
  • Have successfully run one or more engineering teams from architecture through release, maintenance, and support
  • Are self-directed and enjoy building server-side & client side applications, as well as figuring out the most important problem to work on
  • Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done
  • Are detail-oriented, and like to get the system working but know when to cut corners versus getting it exactly right
  • Are interested in coaching, mentoring, and serving a team of engineers
  • Enjoy collaborating across multiple disciplines, including product, design, and data science
  • Know how to communicate in a remote-first environment
  • Have worked with modern web technologies along the full stack. We use Python (Flask/Fastapi) on the backend & Typescript/React on the frontend, but experience with exactly those is not required.
  • Believe in the model of servant leadership and extreme ownership
  • You are passionate about creating a good user experience

Qualifications:

    • 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering or a similar role.
    • 2+ years managing software engineering teams.
    • Track record of shipping web applications with end-to-end ownership (Front End and Back End)
    • Experience initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance
    • Demonstrated experience in hiring, retaining, and scaling high-performing teams
    • Experience in a startup environment is a big plus

Benefits:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family
  • Generous time off
  • Parental leave
  • A remote-first organization with flexible work hours
  • 401(k) plan

Indigo is committed to living our values, specifically “creating a work environment where everyone feels respected, connected, and has opportunities to learn and grow.” As part of living our values, we strive to create a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone feels they can be themselves and has an equal opportunity of succeeding.
