Policy Intern – West 

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is a national association of businesses that are making the energy we use secure, clean, and affordable. We work to accelerate the move to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation in the U.S. AEE is the only industry association in the U.S. that represents the full range of advanced energy technologies and services, both grid-scale and distributed. Advanced energy includes energy efficiency, demand response, energy storage, wind, solar, hydro, electric vehicles, and more. AEE represents more than 100 companies in the $240 billion U.S. advanced energy industry, which employs 3.2 million U.S. workers.  

AEE’s mission is transforming public policy to enable rapid growth of advanced energy businesses. We educate, engage, and advocate in more than a dozen states, in wholesale electricity markets, and at the federal level for executive actions, legislation, and regulations that expand the size and value of markets for advanced energy products and services. We also offer business intelligence products and select business development opportunities to help advanced energy companies grow.  

Position Description

AEE is looking for a policy intern for Summer 2022 to assist in its advanced energy policy activity, which includes helping with candidate education projects and conducting research to assist western state leaders. Our organization is headquartered in Washington, D.C., but the intern will need to be based on the West Coast to better collaborate with our Western policy team. This internship is a remote opportunity.  

Responsibilities  

  • Conduct research and track and analyze legislation on advanced energy policy topics  
  • Provide logistical support for candidate education projects, which involves educating candidates, commissioners, and staff members about the benefits of advanced energy technologies 
  • Provide support for upcoming transmission and state-to-federal projects 
  • Other policy activities as assigned 

Required Qualifications  

  • Interest in politics, policy, and/or the advanced energy field strongly preferred

Dates: Flexible, but mid-June through mid-August preferred

Location: West Coast location required
 

Hours: Between 15 to 40 hours per week 

Compensation: If an intern is not receiving academic credit, AEE will pay interns at a rate of $15.20 per hour (this rate increases to $16.10 beginning on July 1st)
