Job Description

Here at Modern Meadow we are harnessing the power of design, biology, and engineering to produce biofabricated materials and bioproducts.As we continue to grow we are seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Manager to join a growing team. This position will be responsible for the overall safety program of the company and helping to develop a proactive and positive safety culture. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide EHS leadership and guidance for a rapidly growing company with a diversity of experience levels and disciplines 
  • Keep up-to-date with new and evolving federal, state, local and industry standards - including OSHA and GHS 
  • Establish laboratory, Pilot and Manufacturing safety policies and practices by acting as a change agent for the implementation of a behavioral based safety culture. 
  • Collaborate with Scientists, Engineers and the team to understand work practices and their impact on safety 
  • Develop a people focused safety culture which considers behavioral based safety and how this contributes to a safe environment 
  • Act as a safety resource to manage subtle changes in laboratory practices and for planning new laboratory work.
  • Investigate, recommend and implement staff safety training and training programs 
  • Ensure lab users receive training and retraining on laboratory equipment 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Safety or related field. 
  • 7+ years of laboratory, manufacturing or industrial health and safety experience. 
  • Extensive knowledge of EH&S regulations at federal and state level (OSHA, GHS, etc.) in either a laboratory or pilot facility environment. 
  • Prior experience developing and implementing safety policies for an R&D organization 
  • Passionate about developing a behavioral and people based safety culture, considering people’s workspace needs and practices 
  • Possesses good organizational, communication & computer skills. 
  • High degree of personal accountability, with the ability to work independently and deliver results within project specific timelines. 
  • Self-motivated, passionate about your work, and enthusiastic about contributing to building a positive team spirit.
