Job Description

Brilliant Planet is seeking a Head of Strategy. In this role you will work closely with our CEO and Senior Leadership Team on long-term strategy formulation, prioritization across business opportunities, assessment of market trends and competitive dynamics.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of business development, strategy, corporate finance and communications professionals in our Corporate Development division, and report to the Director of Corporate Development. We envision this as a career-defining opportunity to play a central role in building out one of the world’s most promising carbon removal solutions.

As an experienced strategy professional, you will need to be capable of working independently, but will generally be expected to work closely with other senior staff and supervise junior staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting strategy development projects across all areas
  • Ongoing market research and analysis of the carbon removal industry including peer analysis and ground-up competitive analysis of alternative carbon removal technologies
  • Lead the preparation of existing & prospective investor materials such as pitchbooks, primers and industry analysis
  • Represent Brilliant Planet to potential partners, customers, investors and suppliers
  • Produce ad-hoc materials for the SLT, partnering with the relevant data owners on topics such as product and market analysis, customer analytics, funding environment and industry news
  • Provide topical inputs to board materials
  • Work with the CEO and COO to set & prioritize company OKRs
  • Recruit & manage 1-2 Strategy Analysts

Requirements

  • Batchelors degree or higher in a related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in strategy / consulting / banking / corporate analysis
  • One or more of the following:
    • Experience at Senior Associate level or higher at a top-tier consulting firm
    • Top-tier MBA
    • Experience working with high-growth venture-backed companies
    • Experience in or strong interest in the carbon, climate or ESG sectors
    • Investment banking or investment research experience (Senior Associate or above)
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, project management, teamwork, quantitative aptitude, and the ability to effectively synthesise and communicate complex business issues.
  • Ability to think strategically and independently lead strategic modules are critical to the role.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex information clearly in both presentation and long-form formats.
  • Leadership skills combined with the ability to influence senior stakeholders formally and informally are essential.

We are currently based in Camden, London however we will be relocating to Harpenden, Hertfordshire by December 2022. We will be located at the historic Rothamstead science campus, one of the UK’s leading agriscience research institutions. The campus includes 3 miles of walking trails, free on-site parking, a discounted staff canteen and is a five-minute walk from Harpenden town centre.
