Location: We're flexible with where this role but as the team are based in Bristol, you will ideally be comfortable travelling to Bristol once at least once a month.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

This role sits within the OVO Retail finance team and plays a crucial role in helping OVO become the number one trusted energy brand. You'll be part of the Retail Financial Control team and will report to the Energy Gross Margin Senior Finance Manager.

The team's objectives include pursuing opportunities to drive alignments and service delivery improvement through centralisation of common activities across the businesses. Overall, as a Finance Team, we’re responsible for ensuring accuracy, optimising processes and systems, simplifying reporting and driving performance to deliver the most effective returns on capital.

 

What will I be doing?

Reporting into the Energy Gross Margin Finance Manager, you’ll support the day-to-day running of the Energy GM finance team across the portfolio. You'll also be leading and developing a team of 2 Assistant Accountants.   You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate ledgers throughout the month, producing and presenting insightful month end analysis and performing balance sheet reconciliations. You’ll produce an accurate and detailed understanding of monthly journals, accruals and prepayments.  
  • Assisting with the preparation of the monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and key metrics, focussing on Energy Gross Profit
  • Providing reporting and analysis that delivers insight into financial performance,linking the financials to underlying business and industry drivers.
  • Completing accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
  • Building relationships and business partnering key team members and providing insightful analysis of costs against budget/forecasts
  • Support with external information requests relating to Energy Supply, for example Audit and Ofgem requests for information
  • Ensuring continuous improvement and simplification of spreadsheets and documentation
  • Helping to improve the efficiency of the finance team processes and controls by sharing ideas and knowledge
  • Providing additional and ad-hoc support in line with the finance managers and business’ needs
  • Driving simplification and the transition to One Finance reporting driving a consistent way of working as we align the OVO & SSE processes and migrate our customers to a single billing system
  • Finding opportunities and risks to ensure a “no surprise” culture
  • Building partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with all relevant collaborators, senior managers and their teams.

 

Is this the job for me?

We’re looking for a qualified accountant with proven experience in a financial role, ideally with some line management experience.

You're a confident communicator who’s able to interact with people from all levels and adapt your communication style accordingly. We’re team-players and happy to roll up our sleeves, getting stuck in when needed.

Ideally you will:

  • Some background in Utilities, preferably with an Energy supplier
  • Have an excellent grasp of Excel and experience with accounting systems (ideally Workday)
  • Be diligent with a strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
  • Be willing to investigate at depth to proactively resolve problems
  • A desire to continual seek out improvements in all areas of the role
  • Be approachable and friendly, with high integrity
  • Thrive on organisation - you’ve got strong workload & time management skills
  • Great teammate - good open communicator and collaborator - keeps colleagues up-to-date, shares and learns without prompting
