Job Description

Brilliant Planet is seeking a Senior Simulation Engineer. In this role you will work closely with hydrology engineers, automation engineers and biologists to simulate our core production facility processes and determine the most efficient overall system design. This is a core aspect of our solution and primarily relates to the scheduling of large volumes of water moving between ponds each day to optimize production volumes, capital expenditure and operating costs.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of design engineers and digital systems experts such as IoT, AI/ML, data science and synthetic digital environment professionals. You will report to the Digital Systems Manager. We envision this as a career-defining opportunity to design the world’s carbon capture system of this type.

As an experienced simulation engineer, you will need to be capable of working independently, but will generally be expected to take a leading role in system design, including close coordination other staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design large volume seawater supply systems that fulfil the operational schedule requirements and times allotted
  • Lead system level complex discrete event simulation (DES) and system dynamics projects to build, simulate, and optimize operational models using AnyLogic, FlexSim, Demo 3D or any other DES and system dynamics software packages
  • Utilize code (such as C++, Java or C#) for data analysis and modelling algorithms
  • Supervise 1-2 more junior simulation engineers

Requirements

  • BSc / BEng / MEng / MSc in a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in industrial systems simulation
  • Expert knowledge of AnyLogic, FlexSim, Demo 3D or any other DES and system dynamics software packages
  • Experience of end-to-end simulation modelling lifecycle including problem definition, data preparation, model design, model development, model testing and validation
  • Good knowledge of C++, Java or C# or other object orientated language
  • Experience with emulation, visualisation and digital twins is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Experience in the ground-up design & implementation of DES frameworks is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with an intuition for how to approach open-ended analysis.
  • A track record of delivering valuable insight based on data-driven research
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, building a deep understanding of their requirements and translating this into specific answerable questions
  • The empathy and mental flexibility to thoroughly understand both technical and business viewpoints, and to translate fluently between the two
  • A history of continually and rapidly learning new ideas and domains, and using new tools and approaches to solve challenging problems
  • Proven numeracy and proficiency working with data, probably demonstrated by professional research or analysis experience
  • A keen eye for detail, with the inquisitiveness and drive to understand things in depth

Benefits

At Brilliant Planet we provide a benefits scheme that is customized to each employee’s evolving needs and priorities. You will be invited to select a portfolio of benefits from, for example:
