Job Description

About us: kWh Analytics delivers insurance for the climate. We invented the Solar Revenue Put to help solar investors to reduce their biggest cost: the cost of capital. The credit enhancement is backed by the world’s largest reinsurer (Swiss Re) and has been valued by the leading project finance banks (such as MUFG and Nomura) and implemented by top investors (such as AES and Ares) on more than $3 Billion of solar projects. We wrote the book on defining “risk management”  for solar investors.
By combining the industry’s broadest database of historical solar asset performance (>30% of the US market) and the strength of the global insurance markets, kWh Analytics enables clients to minimize risk and increase returns. kWh Analytics is backed by private venture capital and the US Department of Energy.
kWh Analytics is launching its 2nd insurance product--property insurance for renewable energy--following the successful launch of the Solar Revenue Put in 2018.
Who we are looking for:We are looking for an entrepreneurial Analyst to join the growing Business Development team at kWh Analytics. The BD team is focused on identifying and executing on opportunities to use specialty credit enhancement products, including the Solar Revenue Put, the Solar Advance, and the next generation of proprietary risk transfer instruments to help lower the cost of capital for the energy transition. Our products have supported the financing of over >$3 billion of solar assets.
As a Business Development Analyst, you will support product origination/sales efforts, sales analysis and reporting, project modeling, due diligence and transaction closings. You will report to the VP of Business Development, work closely with the Project Finance Manager, and be responsible for the coordination of all financial and commercial activities related to originating, structuring, reporting on and closing Solar Revenue Put transactions.

What you can look forward to:

  • Help clients win: We improve equity IRRs at a time of intense competition for renewable energy assets
  • Manage “hockey stick” growth by building new processes that scale
  • Structuring & closing innovative multi-million dollar transactions
  • Opportunity to support BD's growth initiatives
  • Working with a team of experienced solar veterans committed to helping you succeed
  • Learning firsthand the critical intersection of how solar attracts money
  • Solving a critical problem that has hindered the solar industry since its inception
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base of current trends, activities, and changes within the industry at large

What you likely need to do the job well:

  • 0-2 years of related experience or a recent graduate
  • Fluency in finance or accounting. You can solve problems in real-time with our clients: senior finance executives. You are comfortable with mental math and jumping into spreadsheets (Finance or Accounting Collegiate or Professional Experience Preferred).
  • Experience with financial models. You can maintain and update Excel models for internal and client-facing financial analyses.
  • Ability to create presentations for important stakeholders. You can consolidate large amounts of information and complex analyses into easily digestible PowerPoint slides.
  • A thinker and a doer. You can hold multiple stakeholders’ perspectives in your head, devise a solution, and then rapidly build consensus around that solution.
  • Attention to detail. You care deeply about making sure that each deal is done right, and may have even seen what happens when details are missed.
  • Operating in an entrepreneurial environment. You enjoy “building the plane while you’re flying it” and will go the extra mile to figure things out.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves. We are a start-up and need people who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty (like firing up Excel to test a pro forma or picking up a phone to call someone you don’t already know)
