Job Description

Running Tide is an ocean technology company built to tackle humanity's most urgent challenge: climate change. We build cutting-edge solutions that integrate engineered and biological systems to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore ecosystems, and secure food systems. Our multidisciplinary team of world-class scientists, engineers, and maritime operators is working as fast as possible while the world is burning.
The Aquaculture Maritime Technician will have the opportunity to work aboard multiple vessels, ranging from small skiffs to a 50’ multi-purpose work vessel in support of aquaculture operations. This position will focus on tasks including, but not limited to, installing and maintaining mooring systems, service buoys, experimental aquaculture equipment, generators, and control systems. Due to the wide range of tasks, flexibility is critical. The employee will be expected to assist in the development of detailed plans, while also remaining adaptive in a highly dynamic operating environment.
This is a full time position, and the employee will work within a small team, while constantly supporting larger operations. This position will primarily work out of Portland, Maine but be expected to work out of Brunswick and Harpswell, Maine at times as well. The employee will also be expected to be available for “on-call” shifts, responding to equipment issues and system alarms when necessary.

You Will:

  • Rig, set, and haul mooring systems for aquaculture gear
  • Maintain and troubleshoot generators, outboard engines, and other small engines (to include refueling and resupply of consumable components)
  • Deploy, rig, and haul out aquaculture gear sets
  • Light fabrication or alteration of fabricated gear sets
  • Occasional salvage work
  • Vessel operation
  • Routine cleaning and maintenance of boats

You Are (or You Have):

  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn
  • Sound risk assessment
  • Working well independently, and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated and well organized
  • Good time management skills and multi-tasking abilities
  • Lift 50 lbs repeatedly, and work on feet in a physically challenging environment
  • At least 2 years of maritime experience

Our teams operate with utmost persistence. We are tackling the world’s most difficult and important problems, and we are unwavering in our motivation to find a solution. At our core, we are innovators driven to do "more good" rather than "less bad" in the world.
Running Tide is committed to building a diverse team, bringing as many possible perspectives to bear on the unprecedented challenges facing our planet. We are committed to building an inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds  can come to do their best work.
All offers of employment at Running Tide are contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
