Program Overview:
RMI’s Carbon-Free Electricity (CFE) Program supports the rapid and equitable decarbonization of electricity systems to support modern, clean economies the world over. We work to facilitate the transition away from coal-powered generation, slow the expansion of gas-fired generation, and wisely manage existing gas infrastructure, allowing for decommissioning were prudent. We also work to speed the deployment of clean, distributed, and customer-centric energy solutions; expand transmission networks to accommodate the growth of carbon-free electricity resources; and transition utilities to be climate-aligned in their business models and operations. We work closely with utilities, regulators, businesses, advocates, and customers to evolve grid institutions, policies, regulations, business models, and processes in support of the transition to a clean energy future. We employ a unique combination of research, consulting, and collaboration to support individuals and organizations to innovate and implement transformative energy solutions.
Position Overview:
CFE seeks a Manager to lead project and campaign work across the CFE team. A successful candidate for this position will excel in three key areas:
a. Grid modeling and resource planning to support clean energy deployment at speed and scale, including:
i. Using and improving existing models and developing new analytical tools to evaluate carbon-free energy solutions to meet grid infrastructure needs;
ii. Using and improving existing models and developing new analytical tools to support the optimization and inclusion of demand-side and distribution-level resources, including electrification of vehicles and buildings; and
iii. Working with utilities, regulators, and others in the industry to modernize resource and grid planning processes.
b. Engaging and supporting utilities and the private sector to take bold action on decarbonization, including:
iv. Leading direct engagements with utilities to explore, assess, and implement decarbonization pathways and evolved business models;
v. Leading direct engagements with clean tech, clean energy, and other private sector companies to develop and deploy solutions and business models that can support rapid and equitable power sector decarbonization; and
vi. Energy transition management consulting.

The position will remain remote through the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the COVID-19 situation improves, it is expected/preferred that this role will be based out of one of our offices in Oakland, CA, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boulder, or Basalt, Colorado. This will be discussed further throughout the interview process.

Compensation
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Managers join at the minimum to mid salary range of $103,000-$121,000. You would also have an additional 10% bonus target!
