Job Description

LevelTen Energy, Inc. (“LTE”) is a software company headquartered in Seattle that provides multiple products (the “Platform”), including those designed to facilitate renewable energy PPAs (“PPA Marketplace”), PPA contract monitoring (“Performance Monitoring”), and the purchase & sales of renewable energy assets (“Asset Marketplace”) in a highly efficient manner. Each Platform product incorporates sophisticated analytic engines to forecast value & risk associated with individual PPA and asset offers.

LTE’s central product is the PPA Marketplace, where individual project offers (price; P50 generation profile; COD) are compared against a range of internal and external forward curves, as well as an internal stochastic risk model to calculate unique value & risk forecasts for each offer. Current market coverage includes the US, Canada, and approximately 20 European countries.

Role Purpose

The VP of Energy Analytics will develop and guide all technical analytic approaches incorporated in the LTE Platform, conducted off-Platform, and related to new products under development. You will be responsible for refining existing approaches and developing new approaches for new geographies, new products, and in response to changing market & policy conditions. You will oversee all technical work performed by the Energy Analytics team and will work closely with the Product and Engineering teams to integrate analytics approaches into the Platform software. In short - you will be the LTE “thought leader” for all analytics theory and applications.

This would be a senior-level position in the Company, who will oversee the strategic direction of the Analytics team and be an active member of the Company’s strategic leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, organize, and allocate analytics workflow for existing products and new initiatives. You will be responsible for the quality, scope, and results of the Analytics team.
  • Contribute to the leadership team, and externally, as Subject Matter Expert on analytical aspects of the Platform.
  • Manage a growing team of Analytics employees, spanning the range of recent graduates to experienced energy and data professionals.
  • Coordinate strategic discussions across Product, Engineering, and Business Development, including helping prioritize company-wide goals.
  • Develop new and innovative approaches at the nexus of renewable energy, electricity markets, and statistical methods.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in wholesale electricity markets, with progressive experience overseeing complex energy projects and managing teams. You are highly respected in the industry and have a demonstrated history of publications, citations, and conference appearances to support this profile.
  • Deep understanding of renewable energy technologies and various factors affecting the marginal price of electricity across markets, including supply, demand, transmission/congestion, storage, gas prices, etc.
  • Expert in collecting and analyzing raw source data and building financial and analytical models to inform price and risk forecasting; exceptional attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with US and European power market fundamentals required; other global markets a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to explain complex concepts to a range of audiences (from highly technical to first-time corporate buyer), highlighting opportunities, risks, and risk mitigation options in a concise manner.
  • Detailed familiarity and recent experience with renewable energy PPAs and settlement mechanics, including a strong understanding of contractual options to allocate risk. Experience with other forms of energy contracting (eg storage, gas/tolling, hedging instruments) a plus.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy project development and financing.
  • You are strong people manager who will serve as a mentor to your team. You combine high expectations and accountability with professionalism and poise. You bring the best out of your team and make proactive efforts to help them advance their knowledge and careers.
  • Facile managing big data, exceptional Excel financial and energy modeling skills. Python and SQL skills are strongly preferred. Tableau skills are a plus.

Additional Details

This salaried, full-time position is preferably based in LevelTen Energy’s Seattle office, thought qualified candidates in other North American locations will be considered.
