Job Overview:

The Business Development Director will identify and engage with potential business partners to share Carbon America’s capabilities and expertise. This role will develop and maintain relationships with business partners and early broad-level commercial explorations and support the team in more advanced discussions. The Business Development Director will coordinate the work necessary to further relationships such as gathering required inputs for economic models, drafting proposals, and other commercial documents. This role will also be supporting the development of voluntary carbon credits and long-term business growth strategies.

The current position will include responsibility for engagement in the electricity sector, including coal ang gas-fired power.  The ideal Business Development Director candidate will bring a network of influential contacts across this sector, a technical understanding of power systems and engineering concepts, and a track record of successful origination and business development within the sector.  

This position requires a high level of origination, coordination, integration, and proposal writing. This is a staff position that reports to the VP of Commercial Development and Strategy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Required

  • 10+ years of experience, with at least 5 years of US or Canada experience in business development within an industry with combustion emissions such as coal, power, cement, or steel industries.
  • Comfortable with quantitative analysis and complex project economic models.
  • Ability to communicate complex economic, technical, engineering, and regulatory concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in a context of uncertainty and many moving parts.
  • Strong presentation, writing, and leadership skills.
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and thriving in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
  • Resourcefulness and a track record of being a successful team player capable of collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, and an ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities.

Preferred

  • Extensive working knowledge of and networks within the power sector
  • Engineering and/or subsurface background 
  • Commitment to curbing climate change
  • Expertise in developing and running economic models
  • Ability to develop and implement effective strategies
  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop strategies for approaching new clients. 
  • Establish and build relationships with clients, via “cold call” and network approaches.
  • Present and discuss the Carbon America technical and commercial offer.
  • Engage across disciplines to gather inputs for economic models.
  • Develop and negotiate commercial agreements. 
  • Support broader commercial and marketing strategies to meet company growth objectives.

General Requirements and Job Details:

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to eight hours per day
  • This position is based out of our Arvada, Colorado offices 
    1. Periodic travel to meet with commercial counterparts and visit project sites is required
  • This is a Monday through Friday, Full-Time, Exempt position with a salary range of $140,000 to $150,000.
