About The Ad Hoc Group

AHG is a team of advisors and consultants with a wide range of professional backgrounds who are deeply passionate about supporting climate tech companies. Our CEO and Founder, Jim Kapsis, was a former climate negotiator in the Obama Administration, a leader of the global regulatory team at Opower, Inc. (acquired by Oracle in 2016), and currently co-hosts the technology podcast Technopolis.  AHG’s team members work remotely throughout the US and have unique backgrounds having worked for well-known startups, consulting firms, and in government.

  • Coordinate with AHG team members to craft thoughtful, detailed written memos and presentations to advance business outcomes for AHG’s clients, including comments and testimony before state public utility commissions and other federal, state and municipal regulatory bodies
  • Support policy and regulatory research and analysis to support go-to-market, regulatory, and business development strategies for our clients
  • Lead build-out of key internal policy resources to help streamline AHG’s work across clients

  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong base of knowledge in one or more climate-related segments, such as building decarbonization, transportation electrification, resilience, or carbon removal.
  • Experience navigating state energy regulation and/or wholesale energy markets, or a desire to build that expertise quickly.
  • An agile networker and advocate who develops trusted relationships
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced environment with frequent context switching
  • A strong desire for ownership and accountability
  • Passion for climate tech and sustainability
