Job Description

Who are we?

Sealed is a climate tech company on a mission to stop home energy waste and electrify all homes.

Sealed designs, manages, and finances home weatherization and electrification projects, making it easy and affordable for people to be more comfortable while using less energy. Our proven holistic approach can reduce energy use by 50% and takes a home completely off of fossil fuels with upgrades like high-performance insulation, air sealing, and heat pump HVAC. Our expert team designs the right solution, matches top-rated local contractors, and manages the project start to finish. Sealed covers the upfront costs, and we’re accountable to impact: if we don’t cut energy waste, we don’t get paid.

Sealed, one of Fast Company’s top ten most innovative energy companies of 2021, is venture backed and based in New York City. Learn more at sealed.com.

What will you do?

At Sealed, energy efficiency performance is a core part of our business - we are the first company to charge homeowners based on the reduction in their energy usage. This means that every bill a customer receives is different and based on several factors, including the amount of energy the customer used during the relevant period. That’s where you come in.

You will report to the Billing Manager and will support our billing operations as we expand across the country and grow our revenue 10x over the next few years by managing the performance calculation and bill issuance process. With your methodical approach and meticulous attention to detail, customers will be assured that their performance is calculated accurately and they are billed in accordance with their contract each month.

Specifically, you will:

  • Execute the weekly bill run process from bill calculation to generation and distribution to customers.
  • Manage the various data sources used to generate bills, including both internal customer data and third-party providers.
  • Intake, process, and resolve requests from the Customer Success team.
  • Enroll new customers into Sealed’s billing system.
  • Maintain data integrity and consistency across the billing department.
  • Troubleshoot issues arising from complicated utility invoices.
  • Execute ad-hoc analysis to support the Billing and Finance department.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the billing system from both an internal-facing and customer-facing perspective.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a few years of experience, who has a knack for understanding and manipulating data. Performing an index match look-up in Excel is as easy as putting on your shoes in the morning. When you realize you need data from multiple sources, you quickly know the best way to compile that data into one place.. When presented with an ad-hoc request, you not only see how to put it together quickly and efficiently, but think of how to optimize that process so it can be repeated in the future. Finally, you are eager to improve your data skills, including dabbling in SQL and relational databases.

What success looks like

  • Customer performance is calculated accurately.
  • Customer bills are issued in a timely manner and in accordance with contract terms.
  • Sealed performance and bill issuance processes become increasingly efficient, requiring less and less time per bill sent.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in data operations or similarly data-oriented role, including but not limited to calculating performance of or billing for a complex service or product.
    • Graduate school can be considered in lieu of professional experience.
  • Advanced experience with Excel–you can do an index match or XLOOKUP in your sleep– and familiarity with at least one other tool for data analysis or manipulation (e.g. Tableau, SQL)
  • Self-starter with an ownership mentality and a penchant for process improvement.
  • Service-oriented approach to both our customers and internal team members.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the energy industry.
  • Experience in a growing company.
  • Proficiency with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep.
  • Experience working with relational databases / SQL (e.g. MySQL Workbench).

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive salary
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Stock options
  • Health benefits, including some focused on mental health
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid family leave
  • Paid medical leave
  • Work from home stipend
  • Learning & development stipend
  • Flexible work environment: work remotely from anywhere within the US or from our headquarters office in NYC
