Job Description

Running Tide is an ocean technology company built to tackle humanity’s most urgent challenge: climate change. We build cutting-edge solutions that integrate engineered and biological systems to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, restore ecosystems, and secure food systems. Our multidisciplinary team of world-class scientists, engineers and maritime operators is working as fast as possible while the world is burning. 
Our team is pioneering novel carbon sequestration methods. We are looking for a materials engineer to expand our team’s material development capabilities. You will join a small team working on characterizing and improving biomass buoy performance in the open ocean.

You Will:

  • Research, develop, process, combine, and test materials to be used in biomass buoy production
  • Design and perform experiments using a variety of methodologies to assess key process performance metrics
  • Collaborate with lab technicians, the production team, and verification engineers to characterize materials and process parameters
  • Identify, select, and recommend materials and process improvements based on their impact to product performance (density, strength, durability, cost, and embodied carbon)
  • Measure material performance and participate in product testing
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data, interpret results, and prepare reports

You Are (or You Have):

  • A bias towards action
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a development team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and software used in product testing and documentation

Bonus Points:

  • Professional experience in a research lab environment
  • Technical writing and documentation skills
  • Experience with natural binders, biomass, and/or carbonate materials
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, or chemical engineering
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or other scripting languages
  • Passion for combating climate change
