SUMMARY

Due to growth, Nexamp is seeking to hire a SCADA Engineer within our Operations Center. The SCADA Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining Nexamp’s Central SCADA platform as well as building SCADA infrastructure at numerous solar & storage clean energy facilities throughout North America.

As a Nexamp SCADA Engineer you will work within a cross functional team to develop, implement, test, and deploy SCADA solutions for a variety of applications and use cases including solar hybrids and stand-alone energy storage assets. 

This role is reporting directly to our VP, Nexamp Operations Center. We are supporting hybrid work, and this position can be located near our hub offices in Chicago, DC, New York, Boston or Lawrence, MA. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take a lead role in the ongoing development of a new Central SCADA Platform for use in the NOC (Nexamp Operations Center) for the monitoring and operations of our current and growing PV & Storage portfolio, focusing on future utility scale assets and necessary NERC CIP security requirements.
  • Work closely with the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) and NEC (Nexamp Energy Center) groups to validate system modifications/upgrades and support maintenance of site SCADA systems for proper operation of the solar generation equipment (inverters, tracker controllers, data loggers, etc.)
  • Support operating facilities and the NEC & NOC with upkeep/troubleshooting of field equipment
  • Design, configure and support SCADA and HMIs for operation of Energy Storage Control Systems
  • Manage support relationships with SCADA and OT hardware vendors to ensure issues are prioritized and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Work with EPC SCADA Engineers to integrate systems and provide telemetry to external entities.
  • Validate current SCADA architecture and ensure all additions and modifications are scalable and documented.
  • Research, evaluate, and stay current on SCADA-related tools and technologies.
  • Ensure the SCADA environment addresses business requirements while ensuring adherence to CIP security requirements.
  • Train/deliver various SCADA-related training to small/medium size groups.
  • Mentor team members on new SCADA technologies, tools, processes, and standards.
  • Support regular HMI update releases to the field for new feature improvements and fixes
  • Act as a subject matter expert for SCADA in New or Merger/Acquisition project contractual reviews
  • Support the development project documentation including commissioning instructions, operator manuals and training material.
  • Determine architecture and solution to coordinate local onsite SCADA with a centralized SCADA system to enable remote operations center capabilities
  • Support on-site commissioning, installation, and training for operators
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Occasional travel is expected to operating assets across the country (15-20%). 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, attentive, and a pro-active operator who loves troubleshooting. Additional requirements are as follows:

  • 5 years of SCADA design and development, design, integration, testing and commissioning of SCADA systems and automation with a minimum BS degree in associated field
  • Familiarity and proficiency in a variety of technologies, including, but not limited to; 
    • Solar inverters (SMA, Power Electronics, SunGrow, IngeTeam, Chint, GE, etc.)
    • Solar tracker systems (Nextracker, FTC)
    • DAS (Data loggers / Switches (Moxa, Campbell Scientific)/Weather stations (DenoWatts)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify, solve and communicate complex problems
  • Experience with developing training content and delivering to small-to-medium sized audiences.
  • Strong ability to interface and collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders to effectively create a centralized SCADA platform
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of common (legacy) industrial communication protocols DNP3.0, Modbus, OPC-UA, BACnet and newer communications protocols and platforms (SunSpec 2030.5, MQTT, etc.)
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements and priorities
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP cybersecurity standards and practices
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
