SUMMARY

Nexamp is seeking a Senior Cost Estimator, who’ll collaborate with engineering, construction and business development to gather data (blueprints, specifications, and related documents), identify and analyze requirements (labor, material, equipment and time) to compute cost estimates and draft proposals.

The Sr. Estimator will be a subject matter expert regarding project scope, design and documentation. They will be responsible for mentoring estimators with their responsibilities and assist the manager with forward pricing efforts. This role reports into our Manager, Estimation. We are open to candidates in both Chicago and Boston, and are supporting hybrid work. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In-depth research in a variety of documented data sources to produce efficient, traceable, verifiable and defendable cost estimates meeting company standards
  • Manage and expand estimation tool capabilities; research, present, and recommend 3rd party pricing tool options available in the marketplace
  • Understand full scope of the project (civil, mechanical, and electrical installation) through design document, prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material, labor, and equipment to establish projects estimate
  • Upload and revise budgets as required to Nexamp software.
  • Work with the accounting team in support of project level forensics and budget to actual variance analysis
  • Work with the EPC team to review emerging technologies and methodologies that may generate labor savings, improve project output, or solve a field problem in order to expand best practices
  • Assist the EPC team by assessing and reviewing material and installation costs for various technologies in accordance with company's existing requirements and determining the best cost effective solution
  • Assist manager with forward-looking price curves
  • Model labor markets idiosyncrasies and their impact on EPC pricing
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders including Nexamp vendors to ensure quality of estimates, bids and develop change order pricing if necessary
  • Ascertain that the estimation process is as smooth and robust as possible
  • Train, manage and reviewing cost estimators by sharing knowledge and teach cost estimation tools and techniques.
  • Review cost estimators pricing to ensure it meet all requirements and Nexamp standards.
  • Responsible for innovation, process automation and optimization while supporting tactical deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, and a team player. Key qualifications as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/civil engineering or other relevant field
  • At least 3 years of experience in estimating, or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in utility scale solar projects preferred
  • Strong data analytical skills and reporting capabilities
  • Technologically savvy and ability to learn new systems. (BlueBeam, Procore are a plus)
  • Prior experience mentoring or managing junior staff
  • Capability of streamlining processes and increasing efficiency
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and seek consistent improvements
  • Excellent time management, multitasking, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Team player, detail oriented who demonstrate ability to communicate and collaborate efficiently at all levels within the company and outside the company while maintaining tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to be a leader and display problem-solving skills
  • Critical thinking and risk analysis and management
