Thermal Systems Engineer II

Remora is hiring a Thermal Systems Engineer who will develop an exhaust gas heat recovery system for the Remora mobile carbon capture device. The Thermal Systems Engineer will aid in the development of the device thermal architecture including component selection and design, sourcing, integration, and testing, all while helping to tackle the defining challenge of our time.
We’re a 50-person climate tech startup based in Detroit, MI. We build a device that captures a semi-truck’s carbon emissions directly from the tailpipe. We sell the CO2 to end-users, and split that revenue with our customers, so our device pays for itself in just a couple years. 
We’re piloting our technology with some of the largest companies in the world, including three of the Fortune 10, and we’ve raised multiple rounds of funding from leading investors like Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, and First Round Capital.

Responsibilities:

• Develop concepts for gas-to-fluid heat exchange in the Remora system leveraging commercial components and novel designs
• Work with in-house and external fabricators to produce prototypes, and conduct hands-on testing to characterize performance of produced components/systems
• Work within a cross-functional team to integrate proposed designs into the Remora device
• Lead system-level testing to verify and validate performance of designs
• Establish component- and system-level requirements and supporting documentation
• Lead interactions with vendors and suppliers to source and further develop designs

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 4+ years of relevant work experience, with particular consideration given to candidates with prior experience with automotive exhaust gas recirculation technologies
• Demonstrated strong ability to develop experiments, interpret and analyze data, and report findings
• Hands-on machining capabilities and prior experience generating CAD and engineering drawings is a plus
