Job Description

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable longer range, faster charging and enhanced safety in electric vehicles to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

In this role, you will: 
- Develop and Implement Sustainability Strategy: Develop and implement QuantumScape’s sustainability strategy by focusing on the action plan to assess cost-effective and environmentally sound strategy to meet net zero emission and zero carbon energy goals while balancing business needs. Establish culture of environmental sustainability by developing strategic partners. Lead strategies to meet agreed upon energy, waste, water, and other sustainability goals. · Lead Product Sustainability: In partnership with the R&D and manufacturing teams, provide technical expertise and leadership to advance the product sustainability goals. Identify and communicate emerging sustainable business practices and bring recommendations to the leadership team. · Manage Environmental Data for the ESG Report: Lead annual environmental data collection on behalf of multiple constituencies (ESG reporting, Emissions modeling) for strategic completion of applications and disclosures for relevant business rankings. Partner with the Investor Relations team and be responsible for contributing to the annual public sustainability reporting, the annual Corporate Citizenship report. · Develop Partnerships: Partner with cross-functional teams to drive environmental improvements in product, packaging, supply chain, EHS, and facilities.
Required Skills and Experience: · At minimum, Bachelor’s degree is required in Engineering, Chemistry, or Environment management. Master’s degree is preferred. - Typically requires a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 12 years of experience or a master’s degree and 10 years of experience or a Ph.D. and a minimum of 8 years;· 5+years of experience in sustainability is needed. · Must have proven record of creating and executing environmental sustainability plan. · Track and report on all utilities, chemicals, and waste data along with the reduction initiatives to meet the company’s net zero goals. Work closely with the environmental engineer for some of these functions. · Work closely with the Scientists, EHS, and other stakeholders to reduce all waste streams including hazardous waste through reduction, reclamation, and recycling initiatives. · Conduct analyses on the energy used to make the product compared to energy produced from the product to drive net zero emissions and zero carbon energy goals. · Ensure that prohibited chemicals which can not be in the automotive and consumer electronic products are well communicated to the engineering and manufacturing community. · Develop and drive the end-of-life cycle product take back initiatives. · Drive sustainability initiatives passionately and energetically. · Work collaboratively in a fast-moving environment. · Work closely with the Supply Chain Group to drive material sourcing from sustainable sources. · Have in depth knowledge of reporting requirements and emerging global sustainability standards. · Have extensive knowledge and experience with pertinent regulations. · Inspire and build consensus across all functions of the organization. · Possess extensive experience working with a range of stakeholders (Governments, industry groups, international organizations, government, Board of Directors, Investor community) on environmental matters. · Be results oriented with a track record of delivering against sustainability goals, including interim targets. · Be adept at integrating multiple perspectives on complex topics to drive to a recommendation.
Physical Requirements: May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time. May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist. May be required to use hand or power tools. Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, push and extend arms
