Job Description

Are you interested in building the technical foundation of the worldwide transition to clean energy? Do you enjoy working with a highly motivated and talented team to deliver mission-critical software? Voltus is growing our Infrastructure Team [or “Platform”] team to help deploy, manage, troubleshoot, and enhance our Platform and tools for its internal and external customers. 
This will be our first dedicated Security Engineer hire. You’ll help us identify our infrastructure gaps from a security perspective, create a road and work with the infrastructure/IT team(s) to close our gaps. 
Voltus is a fully distributed company and this job is remote. You have the flexibility to work from anywhere, but you must overlap with the Eastern Time zone for at least 4 hours of the workday (9am-5pm).

About the Role

  • Be the subject matter expert on our AWS Cloud and on-prem infrastructure security.
  • Mentor and enable other team members to improve their security posture. 
  • Define and set up our AWS and on-prem Security Monitoring/Best Practices Strategy.
  • Ensure our infrastructure is maintaining compliance requirements.
  • Manage/Maintain our security and permission models for AWS. 
  • Improve our Terraform Modules to follow security best practices.
  • Evaluate and integrate with SEIM providers.
  • Develop our vulnerability monitoring strategy.
  • Identify our defensive gaps and work with the team to have them resolved.
  • Integrate vulnerability monitoring in our CI/CD pipelines.
  • Improve our Security Response Strategy.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Software development experience with Go or Python.
  • Proven AWS Security Experience.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements such as SOC, HIPPA, GDPR.
  • Experienced in a wide range of technologies such as endpoint detection, network monitoring and AWS Services.
  • Extremely strong focus on compliance, security and risk awareness.
  • Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform or similar.
  • Experience with containers, such as Docker or similar.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability such as with Datadog, Prometheus or similar.
  • Understand the difference between provisioning and configuration management.
  • Experience in knowing when to make fast and slow decisions.
