Who Are You

You are hands on, familiar with hand tools and eager to learn new skills as a Corrosion Engineer on the Equipment Design & Development team. You will collaborate with the process engineers and operating teams to improve the reliability of the equipment and improve the utilization of the process. You will be responsible for documenting material testing plans, reviewing inspection findings, identifying corrosion and damage mechanisms, and recommending materials of construction for repairs and replacement equipment.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop knowledge on corrosion behavior and failure modes of production equipment. 
  • Use knowledge generated to recommend corrective strategies and develop institutional knowledge to improve performance.
  • Lead incident investigations related to corrosion and damage.
  • Lead the development of Integrity Operating Windows.
  • Create and support development of corrosion monitoring plans and control limits; Provide corrective actions for production to implement.
  • Lead development and implementation of Corporate Programs and Corrosion Studies including Damage Mechanism Review (DMR).
  • Conduct experiments or design and manage experiments conducted in-house or by third-party consultants/contractors.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, expertise, and results internally across diverse Sila teams to collaboratively accomplish cross-functional goals.
  • Continuous improvement: Reviewing inspection findings, identifying corrosion and damage mechanisms, and recommending materials of construction for repairs and replacement equipment.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferably with qualification in corrosion engineering with 7+ years experience in process and utilities of petroleum refineries and.or chemical process plants
  • Current certification or Actively work toward obtaining industry certifications including National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), API 571, API 577, API 580, and NACE Corrosion Technician.
  • Strong written and spoken Communication Skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Able to walk long distances and stand for extended periods of time 
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection when required
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes
