Job Description

Opportunity

Upstream Tech is a climate technology company that uses satellites and machine learning to help organizations manage and monitor natural resources. We have two Software as a Service products, Lens and HydroForecast. We are growing quickly and building out our business development team that connects customers to our services.

Specifically, we are looking for a talented team member to help expand the reach and impact of our HydroForecast work to enable informed renewable energy and conservation decision-making. We have great early momentum and are building the team to significantly ramp up our commercial traction over the next few years.

You will wear many hats in this role: generating new opportunities, identifying leads, conducting initial outreach, presenting to prospective customers in sales meetings, and supporting deals through the sales cycle.

The ideal candidate is driven by our mission, has utility hardware or SaaS sales experience, has an understanding of energy utilities, and should demonstrate excellent independent work ethic and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team.

Role

As a member of our Growth & Partnerships team, this individual will support sales and growth of one of our key products, HydroForecast. This is an opportunity to shape and drive market traction at its early stages.

Responsibilities

  • Sales and business development:

    • Identify and qualify leads, and conduct research on leads’ water resource management current approach and pain points

    • Perform outreach and participate in introductory demo meetings.

    • Support development and delivery of proposals.

    • Represent Upstream Tech at conferences and in sales meetings.

    • Conduct market research into new markets and applications for HydroForecast, and develop and share understanding of customer needs and user stories for new applications.

  • Marketing:

    • Support development of marketing collateral, case studies, and other supporting sales materials.

  • Serve as the internal voice of prospective customers by communicating clear user stories and sharing feedback with the product team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, environmental management, data science, engineering, energy)

  • Industry knowledge, connections and experience in hydropower, the utility industry,  renewable energy, or water more broadly.

  • 2-5 years sales or business development  experience, ideally with utility hardware or SaaS productions. We are open to strong candidates at different stages of career progression.

  • Experience with and comfort working with technology applications.

You’d be a good fit if

  • You want to work at a growing, impact-focused company. We measure our success with a triple bottom line and put our principles before profits.

  • You’re process oriented and methodical, paying attention to detail and staying highly organized in a  constantly-changing context.

  • You're pragmatic and want to get things done without sacrificing quality.

  • You are humble and have empathy for customers and teammates.

  • You believe that giving and receiving honest and direct feedback helps everyone to grow.

  • You enjoy working on teams and believe a variety of skills and perspectives create the best products.

  • You’re a self-starter and able to manage your own time effectively and efficiently.

  • You have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and can speak to a range of stakeholders with varying familiarity with technology.

We encourage you to apply if you’re passionate about the issues we work on - even if you don’t meet every qualification.

We are proud to offer great benefits like 4 weeks of paid vacation, 401k match, and trans-inclusive health insurance plans (along with dental, vision and life insurance). We want our team to live full lives outside of work.

In addition to competitive salaries, we offer equity to new employees and incentive compensation based on team and commercial performance.

Location

Remote (in a US time zone). We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We host an annual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.

Travel. We are looking for someone with flexibility to travel for meetings and conferences ~10-20% of the time on an as-needed basis.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until filled. Please provide your resume at https://jobs.upstream.tech/

  • A conversation about your ideal modes of collaboration and communication, and where you are most excited to fit in on a new team
