Job Description

Opportunity

Upstream Tech is a climate technology company that uses satellites and machine learning to help organizations manage and monitor natural resources. We have two Software as a Service products, Lens and HydroForecast. We are growing quickly and building out our business development team that connects customers to our services.

We are looking for a business development professional who wants to use their skills to fight climate change and protect the environment. Specifically, we are looking for a talented team member to help expand the reach and impact of Lens - a remote monitoring platform that enables informed conservation planning and monitoring.

Role

This role is part of our Growth & Partnerships team and will focus primarily on sales of our remote monitoring software, Lens.  The ideal candidate is driven by our mission, has conservation or natural resource management experience, has experience working in a public-facing role, should demonstrate excellent independent work ethic, and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team.

You will wear many hats in this role: identifying leads, presenting to prospective customers in sales meetings, managing sales processes, and exploring new markets through which we can maximize global impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Sales and business development:

    • Identify and qualify leads and conduct outreach.

    • Manage incoming inquiries, lead sales conversations, and deliver sales proposals.

    • Represent Upstream Tech at conferences and in sales meetings.

    • Conduct market research into new markets and applications for Lens.

  • Marketing:

    • Support development of marketing collateral, case studies, and other supporting sales materials.

  • Serve as an internal voice of prospective customers by communicating clear user stories and sharing feedback with the product team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, environmental management, data science, engineering, energy).

  • 2-5+ years of experience in a public-facing role at a natural resource management or conservation-related organization, ideally in sales, business development, or fundraising. We are open to talented candidates at varying stages of their career.

  • Experience with and comfort working with technology applications.

You’d Be a Good Fit if:

  • You want to work at a growing, impact-focused company. We measure our success with a triple bottom line and put our principles before profits.

  • You’re process oriented and methodical, paying attention to detail and staying highly organized in a  constantly-changing context.

  • You're pragmatic and want to get things done without sacrificing quality.

  • You are humble and have empathy for customers and teammates.

  • You believe that giving and receiving honest and direct feedback helps everyone to grow.

  • You enjoy working on teams and believe a variety of skills and perspectives create the best products.

  • You’re a self-starter and able to manage your own time effectively and efficiently.

  • You have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and can speak to a range of stakeholders with varying familiarity with technology.

We encourage you to apply if you’re passionate about the issues we work on - even if you don’t meet every qualification.

We are proud to offer great benefits like 4 weeks of paid vacation, 401k match, and trans-inclusive health insurance plans (along with dental, vision and life insurance). We want our team to live full lives outside of work.

In addition to competitive salaries, we offer equity to new employees and incentive compensation based on team and commercial performance.

Location

Remote (in a US time zone). We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We host an annual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.

Travel. We are looking for someone with flexibility to travel for meetings and conferences ~10-20% of the time on an as-needed basis.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until filled. Please provide your resume at https://jobs.upstream.tech/

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

The Interview Process

Our interview process aims to respect your time. It consists of three rounds:

  • An initial 30 minute introductory conversation

  • A conversational technical interview to discuss projects you’ve worked on, your approach and strategy to the role, and our growth & partnerships culture at Upstream Tech

  • A conversation about your ideal modes of collaboration and communication, and where you are most excited to fit in on a new team
