Job Description

About the Role:

As a Payroll Associate at AppHarvest, you will process bi-weekly payroll for the company’s corporate and greenhouse employees, verify employee data and calculations in the HRIS/Payroll software, and assist with various projects as we scale. This role will be based in Lexington, Kentucky.

What You’ll Do:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for corporate and greenhouse employees, including review and validation of employee information and calculations of payroll, tax deductions, and other employee benefit withholdings in the HRIS/Payroll software
  • Perform supporting processes related to non-recurring payroll and employee benefits activity, incentive compensation calculations, and stock-based compensation activity
  • Process off-cycle payroll runs, manual checks, and other payroll and employee benefits adjustments as needed
  • Ensure income withholding orders, wage garnishments, and levies are entered into the HRIS software timely and accurately and communicated to affected employees in a timely manner
  • Roll-forward payroll audit files for each pay group in the preparation for the next payroll cycle
  • Ensure payroll processing is compliant with company policies related to payroll, employee benefits, incentive compensation, and stock-based compensation
  • Review changes in employee work location and home address to ensure correct tax jurisdictions
  • Review and approve direct deposit changes initiated by employees after initial set-up
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses for Human Resources and other departments
  • Investigate identified payroll and employee benefit-related issues and resolve them in a timely manner, including responses to employees, management, or other departments
  • Create and update documentation of payroll processes and related internal controls as needed
  • Cross-train with accounts payable and accounts receivable team members and process transactions in support of those functions outside of payroll busy times

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related role
  • Previous payroll experience including familiarity with federal, state, and local payroll requirements, payroll best practices, and basic accounting principles
  • Attention to detail with an ability to deal with sensitive and confidential info
  • Technically savvy – proficient in Excel; a plus to have experience with UKG/UltiPro and/or Business Central/Dynamics
  • Great communication skills to work with the team, leadership, and other key stakeholders
