Business Development Lead

Earthshot Labs’ is a science and technology company dedicated to planetary-scale land regeneration.

We conduct core ecological research and build technology products that inspire land stewards to restore their land, and easily onboard them to carbon marketplaces. We partner with world leading conservation and restoration organizations around the world to support them to develop, secure finance and certify their nature-based carbon project. Our just partnership model is centered on equitability, with a goal of driving as much money as possible back to the implementing organizations and communities on the ground. 

Earthshot is building two products that enable its vision: LandOS and Biome. LandOS is a platform for enabling landowners to envision and manifest the regeneration of land they have stewardship over and access carbon markets. Our intention is to build a product that inspires our customers to be bold, to delight and engage them while they envision the future possibilities of the land in ways never possible before. Biome is our Unity app that collects nature observations in the most accurate, fun and engaging way using the smartphone’s neural engine, camera, and augmented reality capabilities. The data collected is used to power both fundamental ecological research as well as to underpin our LandOS system for envisioning and manifesting land restoration.

Despite our best intentions we are keenly aware of the potential problems inherent in creating a tech platform to engineer large scale land use, and so we are engaging with indigenous leaders, ecological experts, regenerative farmers, and other groups with deep knowledge of the land in order to ensure we have the highest integrity and wisdom infusing our efforts.

The Role

This is a role that requires deep competency in corporate ESG strategy, project finance and carbon markets, as well as a sincere heart for the planet to convey that we’re not just selling carbon credits, we’re giving customers an opportunity to restore sacred connection to the earth across their entire organization.

Earthshot Labs is looking to grow our business development team with people who are passionate about ecological restoration and have a strong capacity to close deals and make relationships with corporate and investment partners. We’re primarily looking for a senior executive role with a background in finance and sales, who can build corporate CEO/CSO and investor customer relationships, design and analyze investment and forward contract instruments and lead relationship building and closing deals with mission-aligned investors and corporates for project finance.

Tasks:

Customer Sourcing and Relationship Building

• Make a comprehensive list of the top 200 voluntary carbon credit investors and buyers aiming to invest in projects that will deliver future credits.
• Contact the decision-maker for each potential customer, develop customer relationships, and manage a sales pipeline through closing.
• Manage a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to improve sales/investment efficiency, support data analytics, and process optimization.
• Develop relationships with investors, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Environment Social and Governance (ESG), sustainability leaders in a range of businesses and industries with netzero commitments.  

Investment Structure Design and Analytics

• Analyzing investment structures to determine which structure is optimal for each project 
• Develop standardized project investment and forward contract offerings for investor and corporate clients

Sales and Closing

• Closing carbon offtake deals and project financing to drive funding towards regenerative carbon projects in developing countries.
• Negotiating contracts, as well as supporting our carbon and LandOS teams with customer feedback.

Who we’re looking for:

• A passionate and heart-centered professional with a deep love for nature and a desire to build a more integrated future for humanity
• University degree in finance, economics, resource management, forestry, agriculture, or related field
• At least 5 years of experience in business development and finance ideally in sustainable land use and carbon markets; this may have been a Chief Sustainability Officer or similar level experience.
• Established connections with corporations, ESG professionals, CSR teams, and other investor groups
• Proven experience simultaneously managing different projects in an international team
• Experience in the preparation of business and financial plans for natural carbon projects or similar projects (e.g. renewable energy)
• Fluent in English, with Spanish, Portuguese, French and additional languages as a strong advantage
• Excited to travel and explore the world to visit project sites
• Professional experience in Latin America, Africa, or South-East Asia is an advantage

Salary Range: $100K-$160K depending on years of experience. Geo-location modifiers for below US national average cost of living US & international cities.
