Job Description

About you

Our team supports a diverse, greentech product offering and requires more talent as more partners and customers are onboarded into our industry leading solutions. This is where your development skills and passion for chemistry come into play. As our business expands, Smarter Sorting needs a dedicated engineer to help convert regulations and chemistry into production services. Chemical and regulatory APIs are the foundation of Smarter Sorting’s technology and that means you'll be working in the center of our business. This position is crucial to performing more complicated calculations while at the same time, optimizing the performance on the existing. The successful person in this role will be motivated to learn how we convert regulations and chemistry into production services and excited by making sense of the gray area challenges this presents.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, implement, and document foundational APIs that perform chemical and regulatory calculations (requires working knowledge of chemistry)
  • Collaborate with the Data Platform team to integrate chemical and regulatory APIs into our pipelines
  • Support, maintain, and refactor existing chemical and regulatory APIs that are already used in production
  • Become an expert in our chemical calculations (requires working knowledge of chemistry)
  • Fix any bugs in chemical and regulatory APIs that have a negative effect on production pipelines
  • Work with product owners and tech lead to build new chemical and regulatory APIs
  • Collaborate with the Data Platform team to integrate and optimize the use of the chemical and regulatory API

Your Experience + Skills

  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years SQL
  • Experience with Python
  • Degree in CS or equivalent experience AND demonstrable knowledge of chemistry
  • Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering AND demonstrable software engineering ability

Your first month

  • Jump into the existing APIs and begin fixing bugs, documenting, and making incremental improvements
  • Start learning the chemistry and regulatory calculations we use in production pipelines

Your first 3 months

  • Work with Product team and tech lead to design and create new chemical or regulatory APIs
  • Work with Data Platform team to integrate new or optimize existing API integrations with our production pipelines
  • Become a point of contact for how we’ve implemented our chemical and regulatory calculations
  • Document existing, undocumented APIs

Compensation: From $130-$180,000 depending on experience
